ketch etc are reporting that will and oscar have been sniffing around in shreveport. i don't know that rasco and nathan hughes are close enough in size to be competitors for a spot, but i bet hughes isn't going to like it. vaughters too. i certainly thought we were through at de.

i tell you we're going to 27 this time.

Key the dramatic music.

Mack slowly turns towards the camera and... raises... one eye brow. Cue Mack's smirk.

Slow dim the lights... fade to black.

CUT!

tough question, bill. i think we can all come up with seven we'd like to have, but i quit trying to outguess our recruiting a long time ago.

what seven would you most like to see come on board?

In no particular order, except Nos. 1 and 2:
1. Malcolm Brown
2. Josh Turner
3. AS-J
4. Anthony Wallace
5. Aaron Green
6. Rasco
7. Q. Russell

And my pipe dream - have Hegarty reopen his recruitment, change his mind, and bring his services down to the 40 Acres.

i like your seven, vegas. actually, i like your eight. would be tempted to swap your no. 4 for vaughters, but the way you have it would deny the sooners, and that is always is a nice feeling.

I like Big's 7 also but maybe Jackson may need to be made room for if Mr. Turner doesn't come here. The longer he waits the more I fear it will be Oklahoma. Of course I also thought we wouldn't get Mr. Hicks so that shows how much (little) I know.
I still think we will shut it down at 23 or 24 in order to have room for the 2012 class.

If any of the 25 are early enrolles, they can count for the previous year if there were less than 25 the previous year who entered in the fall.

In the fall of 2009, Texas was easily below 25, more than 22 below since some of those were also spring enrollees and counted for 2008. But, for 2010, only 3 are spring enrollees. The most they can sign in 2011 would be 28 (assuming that the other 22 enroll this fall), but 3 of those 28 would have to be spring enrollees and they would have to stay within the 85 limit to do so. I do notexpect them to sign that many. Because of what Ole Miss did last year with having 37 signees which included non qualifiers, I think the SEC may have made a rule for their schools limiting all signees to 28 and there may be a push for the NCAA to do the same.

Also, Nathan Hughes has already committed to OU.

you guys are a wealth of information.

say, incidentally, there are two ways the numbers can be massaged. not only is it conceivable that the three early guys this year MIGHT count toward last year, but if any our our present 20 commits is willing to grey shirt to get over an injury, say, that would open more room, too.

i have no idea if any of these situations exist or whether the 85 limit would preclude doing it anyway, but my claim of 27, since we are so hot right now, is not really out of line if absolutely top kids present themselves.

Bill - I agree that Jackson would be a good catch as well. Not sure of the specifics on him, but from the pictures alone, he looks like an elite athlete. Great build for a kid his age.

well, hd, i think he might care because he was all set to pay us a visit but we realized we are out of room at lb, largely, i assume, because of the great haul last year. well, we had a great haul at de last year, too, and we arguably have two de's already in this class but we are still after rasco. that's all. no biggie for sure.

edit: by the way, hd, your name reminds me that when i worked a job in wisconsin several years ago i noticed the hd headqtrs in milwaukee one day when i was headed for chicago. i always had it in mind to see if they would show me around, particularly the design area, but i buzzed out of there before getting around to it. i'd still like to do that some time or other. i think that would be pretty cool.

Glenn... I think you're right with the commits of 2 DE's and the fact we're chasing Rasco, then again... I'm not James Vaughters and unfortunately, we'll never find out unless he opens up & tells all! But the writing does appear to be on the wall!

I have been on a walk thru of the H-D museum and the factory and it's everything you'd imagine it to be... from the story of how the name 'Hawg' originated to the storied history of H-D! The mfg. plant was impressive... the next time I'm in KC, I'm going to try to get to the H-D plant there! Don't miss out...

no, no. it's no big deal. i was just saying what prompted me to make that comment. there is in me still the disappointment that we couldn't go after vaughters. probably the two places that i most admire on a team but least understand are the offensive line and the linebacking corps. ironic this year we can't go after vaughters and maybe couldn't go after hegarty. i love this class but am nursing a couple of sore spots.

also, i gotta admit it's probably pretty hard to pinpoint what i know the least about. the depth of my misunderstanding is truly impressive.

regarding h-d, i probably won't get back up that way. that job up there did not go well and i don't imagine that place where i was working is any more keen on having me back than i am on going back there. given the choice between going back and driving a nail through my thumb, i'd need to know what kind of nail they had in mind. i missed that opportunity to see h-d. actually i doubt my design background would impress them. probably the only thing i would get a good look at is the door on the way out.

i don't watch much tv, but i really like that show where they build the choppers. the human element drama leaves me a little cool, but i love the problem-solving and the glimpse of fabricating on the fly. that overhaulin' show is fun, too, when i'm not watching ezzard charles reduce some guy's face to a shallow puddle, but i sometimes cringe when they turn like the last known '27 pierce-arrow into a low rider or something. i also turn the channel when they get on the horn. not very interested in that.

I'll bet at least one of you guys knows where the ags stole the name Wrecking Crew.

Maybe so, But originally it was the nickname of the first Harley Davidson Race team. Their domination of the new sport was instrumental in the rapid growth of the company.

didn't know that, doc. thanks. i just read a little bio on harley and the davidson brothers. i didn't realize they essentially invented the motorcycle, crank-starting their company in 1901. early models had pedals and you pedaled it up to speed which started the engine.

'the longest yard' came out in '74. anybody know when the ags snagged the name?

Whoever coined it for the ags probably did get it from the movie, but i"m sure they got it from HD history. I'm pretty sure Walter Davidson was actually one of the riders on that team. If you ever see The HD story coming on the biography channel, you should tivo it because it is an amazing story what those brothers did to start & grow that company.

Former aggy S Chet Brooks has claimed to have been the first to call their D the Wrecking Crew. He played from 85-87. He does not credit the movie, motorcyclists, wrestlers, or anyone else for previous use of the expression that I have read.

Of course not. They'll try to tell you kyle field was built as a memorial too.
