The details have come out today from Higdon, on why it was Briles who announced on NSD morning that Hudson was going to Baylor. Higdon brought out his "all I want to tell you about 2016 recruiting" epic (17k words or whatever!) that he had promised, at Horns Digest. It's a paysite, but people have copied it in multiple forums, so I guess it is okay to put in a snippet here.
It seems his HS coach was at his house the night before, pushing hard for the NLI for Baylor. He got Hudson and Mom to fill it up, and apparently sign too, though it is not clear if Hudson was aware that it was all final. It appears that the coach had faxed it to Baylor without his knowledge before he even got up, which is why Briles tweeted and made it official. It seems Hudson thought he had time till the morning to mull over it. We all felt it was bush league of Briles to tweet it and take the moment away from Hudson then, and it seems that is exactly what happened. Briles is a piece of you know what.
But having said that, this may also be a bit of exaggeration. Higdon himself said that it does not mean Hudson was necessarily ready to sign with Texas by morning (though he feels Hudson felt more pro-Texas by then; which matches the account of others like Burton who said Silsbee HS sources seemed to feel that too). Anyway, it doesn't mean he would have come to us, but he was not given the time he thought he had, to make the decision. We all felt something was fishy when it was not Hudson but Briles who tweeted on his decision.
I can imagine the coach saying "just to be safe, give me an NLI to BU, and I can send it out from my fax machine. If I don't hear that you changed your mind, maybe I can anyway send it out for you" (and then he sent it right at 7 am, the earliest when it can be sent as per the rules, without even checking with Hudson on any change of mind!). I am just making up a potential scenario, that's all ... Or maybe his Mom was okay with it and didn't want her son vacillating in the last minute, and let him sleep. Who knows!
Anyway, Briles is a piece of you-know-what, for sure.
I am not sure if the said coach was the Silsbee Head coach (?) who is supposed to have once been Briles roommate or something in college... Not sure.
Of course Hudson wouldn't say anything, even if he felt he got played and felt upset at not getting the time till morning that he thought he had. It was also not like he hated Baylor or anything. After all he had signed the NLI. He will only keep quiet, as he wouldn't want to upset his future coach right off the bat now.
But., how sad! Did I say that Briles was a piece of you-know-what?
