Officiating

No Laker EVER has a right to gripe about officiating. The Lakers sucked all night and the refs gave them the game. No way they would allow a sweep. No way the Lakers lose a Joey Crawford reffed game either.

When Michael Wilbon, a respected sportswriter who has covered basketball for years, basically tells David Stern he has a credibility problem, then it becomes apparent that the emperor has no clothes.

When Kobe goes to the basket he should be getting 10-15 FT's a game. He probably got a little more than he deserved but nothing like what Boston got in game 2. 34-22 discrepancy at FT line is nothi9ng like a 38-10 discrepancy.

The style of play that the officials are allowing is vastly different though in Boston and in LA. I do think this favored Boston in games 1 and 2 and favored LA in game 3. I really think it is more about a style of play the officials are allowing and which teams this favors.

Sad that 2 teams in NBA finals can shoot this many FT's in game 3 and neither team is above 70% from the line. You can't blame 35% shooting from Boston on the refs. Their poor outside shooting is what cost them this game. They couldn't go inside and get bailed out time and time again like they did in game 2 and so they made the adjustment by shooting more midrange shots, and they missed them....that is why they lost.

I expect better shooting from both teams in game 4 and a more evenly officiated game as both teams will make the adjustments needed to this crew.

I agree hornpharmd. Although the officiating was Laker favorable last night, the Celtics still had horrible games out of Garnett & Pierce. I think everyone was shocked that Kobe was missing so many free throws. That kept the game close but the Celtics choked at the end and Kobe made two very clutch shots when Doc Rovers had a jerry Sloan moment and left Kobe one-on-one with Ray allen.

The Lakers needed an all-world effort from Vujacic to keep from giving away the game and making Odom/Gasol look like fools. Officiating didn't help either team last night... poor performances from important players on both sides made it a close/bad game.

I should point out that I made this thread at half time.
The second half was called closer to even, but the first half was called heavily in favor of the Lakers. They have a jump shooting team that is not good about going to the basket, they will naturally have fewer foul calls. Odom and Gasol are absolute vaginas about going to the rim. The Lakers went to the rim more in this game, but still not as much as Boston. Ergo, Boston should be shooting more free throws. Boston was just as agressive going to the rim at the start of game 3, but didn't get any calls. The second half looked a bit better, but there were obvious fouls not called on both teams. NBA officiating sucks.
