officiating in the aggie game

So me and my girlfriend and her sister and about 5 other aggies ( yes i know im dating an aggie) all went to the game.

I was obviously having a blast and to my girlfriend complementing several aggie players and plays. Well we got into it last night because she said that the officiating was horrible and that it was a "home job" and "UT payed the refs".
******** I know but im not a huge knowledgeable person on basketball rules and fouls but to me it looked like aggy got their asses handed to them by a team that played outstanding defense last night.

So my question is how was the officiating last night without the orange tinted glasses.
 
Well, it wasn't like the Baylor game, if that's what they mean.

I know Texas had more fouls than a&m at at least one point in the first half.
 
Typical mediocre Big 12 officiating crew. Some questionable calls both ways, some obvious missed calls both ways. 21 PFs called on Texas, 19 on aggy. James and Mason and aggy Davis with 4. All in all, anyone asserting that this game was about officiating should start brain before opening mouth.

Teach her to read a box score, and may God have mercy on your aggy-lovin soul.
 
One of the worst calls did hurt A&M -- the missed goaltending -- but other than that, the crummy officiating seemed to go both ways. Tell her she's right, they should have only gotten blasted by 25 points instead of 27 points.
 
Well, they are absolutely correct that the officiating was terrible. But it was terrible both ways. At one point Texas had 10 fouls in the first half and A&M had 4, I believe. A&M was playing just as physically as we were. They were hipchecking DJ all night off the screen and we had a couple of players get mugged with no call on shot attempts.

They also blatantly missed some calls that should have gone A&M's way. Then they spent the end of the game calling chippies on the Aggies in an apparent attempt to even up the number of fouls called on each team so the box score would look better. Not that A&M would have come back, but that made it impossible.

An absolutely horrible job by that crew last night. So any Aggie that complains that the game was called terribly is absolutely correct. Obviously, though, any Aggie that claims that's why they lost is a moron.
 
Good one jimmy! It reminds me of a story I once read about the 1940 NFL Championship Game between Chicago and Washington that Chicago won 73 to 0. Washington got the opening kickoff and on second down Washington QB Sammy Baugh threw a pass to a wide open receiver who would have scored a td easily but the receiver dropped the ball. After the game a reporter told Baugh that if the receiver had caught the ball the outcome of the game would have been different. Baugh replied "Yep! Then the final score would have been 73 to 7 instead of 73 to 0."

The 2 missed goaltends and the tomahawk to the back against Johnson with no foul called were pathetic. We're lucky no one got hurt last night. I know you like "let them play", but damn that was getting rough. Did they set a record for blocked shots.
 
We all bith about the officials here, but 2 of those 3 are in the conferences we also claim to want calling our games. Welmer and O'Neal have more final fours than any Texas school. Sometimes we need to be a bit more objective and realize that D1 basketball players are damn quick and sometimes get away with a foul and sometimes get called for ticky-tacky ones. These guys try to do a good job - they would not last if they were trying to cost a team a game. Do you think Barnes would put up with shady things lke that?
 
Sounds like your Aggie girlfriend is looking for a moral victory. Let her have it.

Take it from me-- I'm married to an Aggie girl, and she's wonderful, but we simply don't discuss things like that. Just let it go.
 
Another "the officials sucked" thread. This should seriously be put as a sticky at the top of the page. What's funny is that some people have no earthly clue as to what they are talking about...but I'll move on.

I like Welmer. He seems like he knows his ****.

I wish one of those ref's had told Turgeon to get the **** off the court, though. The dude spent more time out there than half of his team. I can't stand it when coaches do that.
 
A bit of advice, if you marry this girl you will have to deal with this for the rest of your life!!!!!! Aggie will never lose a 'legitimate' game where the officiating was 'fair', Either learn to smile and nod or ignore completely.

Tell Dolly that the officials sucked both ways.

Missed goaltending hurt aggie.
Million fouls calls against us for no reason.

At the beginning of the game, the calls favored us. By midway it was back to even because of all the foul calls going against us.

be sure and tell her about focusness. tell her when you start out raining 3's, on a 16-4 run, get the momentum, it will lose you the game. This game was over before the fouls even made a difference. God help us, not only dating an aggy, but with her 5 aggy friends, how did you survive the night? May God give you strength in your quest.

It is pointless to argue whether the officiating was fair or not with this type of Aggie. Instead do this:

Look at her. And then (in a Sesame Street type song), count 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12, 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24, 25 26 27.....

And then explain that 27 is a big number. Explain that a ref can not be one-sided enough to account for 27 points.
 
I agree that there were some questionable calls both ways, but it didn't affect the outcome. While UT was putting the Aggies away in the first half, UT was blown for 10+ fouls while the Aggies only got 5.

The real problem for the Aggies is they simply did not shoot the ball well. It happens.
 
Even if there was a UT bias by the refs (which we can all agree is absurd) A&M still missed quite a few open shots, including going 1-14 from 3 pt. range. they also went 11-23 from the FT line as well.

They had chances.
