These are some pretty bad losses. NCAA Tournament, say hello to Tom Penders (for now).

Bob,

*Assuming that their 18th win comes before the SEC tourney*--you'd have to think that Kentucky is in with an 18-11 record, despite the Vandy shellacking, if only because that means the team recovered to go 7-1 in their last 8, taking 3 of 4 from tourney teams Tennessee, Florida, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Granted that means the SEC gets 7 teams, which may be a stretch, but if it's 6, the sixth could be UK instead of Ole Miss.

The problem for UK is that they need to cheer for Florida and Ole Miss to win. Ole Miss is 3-6 in the SEC so I don't think they'd be in the tourney today, and Florida is really in question after their awful home loss to LSU last night.

UK needs another signature win or two, that's for sure. A home win against Tennessee isn't enough to overshadow home losses to San Diego and Gardner-Webb, a blowout loss at another bubble team, Houston, and their shellacking on Tuesday. They only have two Top 100 wins.

I don't think Houston really deserves to be in at the moment since they haven't beaten anybody, but they don't have a terrible loss either (their worst is VCU in Puerto Rico), so it's more of a case of having to take a certain number of at-large teams. UH plays at UAB next week, and it's very possible they'll lose that, which would be a killer. Turnaround Tom did a terrible job scheduling out of conference this year knowing he had his best team at UH.

If the BCS-conference bubble teams continue to post bad losses, teams like Kent State and Davidson are going to need to get ample consideration.

True, and the SEC hasn't been this bad in a while!

Didn't Colorado fail to make the tourney one year with 10 conference wins? Despite what many people say, conference affiliation has extremely little if anything to do with whether a team gets in.

UK does have a win over Tennessee, and was playing better -- until Tuesday.

What struck me was the attitude -- oh, six more wins will get them there. That, and an undercurrent that the size of the fan base (ticket buyers) would be a factor.

Baylor losing to Okie St. last night is a pretty bad loss. The bears still have some pretty tought games coming up, too. I'm now not so sure they make the big dance.

And while KSU is in the tourny (unless something really weird happens), Tech beating them last night was quite suprising.
