"I think it's raining, hold onto the ball!"

Sort of like Leach, Patterson is a fun opposing coach for some good-natured ribbing. But make no mistake, he's probably the best game day coach in the conference.

Here is a free IT article -- "Mike Yurcich’s history versus Gary Patterson" -- he mentions every matchup with video

"During his time as Oklahoma State’s offensive coordinator, Mike Yurcich coached several of the most prolific offenses in Cowboys and Big 12 conference history. James Washington, Justice Hill, Mason Rudolph, Tyreek Hill, Blake Jarwin, and Tylan Wallace all were key to his success at various points in his six years in Stillwater.

Those offenses had yearly run-ins with TCU head coach Gary Patterson’s defense. In some cases, Yurcich’s explosive offenses scored with ease against the Horned Frogs. There were other times when Patterson’s defenses made life miserable for the Cowboys in contests with important Big 12 implications.

“Gary’s defenses, his signature is they tackle very well,” Yurcich said Wednesday. “They’re very sound in the secondary. They play with tremendous technique. They know their system very well, and he does a great job of knowing what you’re running. He’s got his system down, whatever that system is. I don’t pretend to know how he does it, but he knows what you’re in and he’ll wreck your blocking schemes.”

“It may look like a good box to run into, but he knows what games to play up front to wreck your schemes and to knock you off, whether it be a zone scheme or whether it be a gap scheme. He knows the stunts to answer and to have less numbers in the box. There’s going to be an extra fitter somewhere, but he’s done a great job every year of disrupting whatever blocking scheme that you have.”

“It’s a challenge. It really is. He does a heck of a ...."

TCU gets defensive tackle Terrell Cooper back
So that's a shame

They are also supposed to play former 5-star Marcel Brooks

Here is the explanation
He may get his first ever carry against us

“He just needs to learn the offense. He’s been out quite a bit with close contact. He’s missed probably almost a month with close contact. He hasn’t had Covid, but when you miss a month of work outs it’s hard to get into everything.”

“As he keeps moving forward, if he keeps doing that he’ll have an opportunity to get in the ball game. “We have five, one can do all of it and the other four can do certain parts of it. Being a running back is not just about carrying the football. It’s about pass protection, running the routes on the right plays and doing all the things you need to do. Those guys are all growing every day. We’re going to keep pushing them and they are all going to be good players. It’s probably one of the best groups we’ve ever had at that position.”

On defense, IMO, the biggest weakness is tackling (and LB play generally)

The regulars on defense who make me the most nervous -- Green, Foster and Mitchell. I must admit thought Mitchell would be playing like a madman this season, but its been the opposite. It looks like he thinks his job is to invent new ways to miss tackles Even though he is more limited in coverage and athleticism generally, Jacquess at least usually makes the tackle if he gets his hands on the guy

Iowa State averaged 7.6 yards per carry and 9.2 yards per pass against TCU's defense.

Iowa State averaged 4.4 yards per carry and 4.1 yards per pass against the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns

(It kind of makes me wonder who is the Cajuns' DC)

Jake From State Farm is supposed to start at the slot, but it appears he will be on a snap count. Schooler is the backup slot, followed by Kai Money
I thought Jake from State Farm was a grad transfer out a few years back?
