O'Connor's legal books?

Attorneys, are these any good? I have been looking at legal guides and forms books for my new law practice and these O'Connor's books look pretty comprehensive and useful. Does anyone use these? Are they useful in a real world legal practice?

They are ok. You need to realize the limitations of such a guidebook. On some subjects, it will be very thorough and on others it may not be. The trick is being able to recognize when this occurs.

The civil procedure one is very nice. The evidence one is pretty good. You can often find older versions (like last year) for way cheaper.

Their criminal code is pretty good. I have a family code from another company that is better than the o'conner's.

the CPRC is very good, civil rules pretty good, causes of action pretty good.

I use Dorsaneo's like crazy. Lexis has it online and is - IMO - a far more elaborate set up that appeats to be more thoroughly updated.

i use the civil trials and family code plus volumes almost every day

for some reason i kept the -06-07 versions of each when my -07-08 versions came in to replace them, and i also have an older copy of the texas civil forms

don't know where you are located, but you can have them if you want them. i remember when i hung my shingle out years ago. they don't change a ton from year to year

I like all of the O'Connor's books I have - and I have a lot of them. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, which you often can, it usually gives you a solid starting point to start researching.

I use my Texas Civil Trials every day. And the Causes of Action is very good. I also use Dorseanos a lot, too.

But both Dorseanos and the O'Connors have mistakes. I wouldn't ever rely on their cites without first checking out the case. And sometimes they're flat wrong.

I wholeheartedly agree with the last two posts. Civil Trials and Causes of Action are great for quick answers/starting points, but you must double check the cases cited if you're putting them in a pleading. Dorsaneo's is definitely more in depth.
