Ocare operator gets fired

simply for going on Hannity radio show. She was respectful to Hannity even though she didn't really know who he was and didn't even criticize the train wreck that is Obamacare.Just answered the questions.

The company who fired her is a contractor.
The cool thing is Hannity is giving her a year's salary in such a way that she won't pay taxes on it and will help her find a new job. That contractor lost a good employee

She will end up much better off . I admire her for working and NOT living on welfare, with 2 kids she easily could.

Yeah, if this didn't involve Obamacare, no Republican would stick up for this lady, and I'm not particularly sympathetic to her. Tons of people get fired for much more unjust reasons everyday and get no sympathy at all. I listened to the call, and Hannity told the customer service rep that she was on the radio at the very start. She proceeded to enable him to bash the program and tell him how poorly it was going. That may all be true, but as a CSR, it's her job to field calls from potential customers, not talk to the media, especially on company time. The appropriate action was for her to refer the call to her supervisor, who would refer the call to the company's public relations people. It was a ****-up all the way around. Take the politics out of the equation, and nobody would disagree with that.

Think about it. If a low-level employee at your company knowingly talked to the media during work hours and made your company and/or one of its clients look bad with millions of people listening, would you keep her around? I doubt it.

I think you give her more credit that she deserves. I also listened to the phone call. I am not totally sure she understood what was happening and that perhaps she shouldn't talk to this person. I think she was just trying to do her job,
and she was polite through it all.
do you think this was the first call she got where the person was negative about ocare.

One thing you are DEAD wrong on is that conservatives wouldn't care about her. She is a young uneducated Mother of 2 children who could live pretty well off all the bennies but still chose to work
and the jobs she had had were not sitting at a desks all day, from McDonalds to Olive garden
THAT is the attitude and character trait conservatives admire
so you are wrong. conservatives would care and want to support someone who isn't afraid of hard work.

Just curious why either of you would think a conservative wouldn't care about someone who is trying to do the right thing by working at whatever job they can find?

Perhaps you need to do some research on conservative principals and goals. How can one not admire a young mother who has done what she can for her family ?
If anyone has done the similar kind of work she has while trying to care of young children they understand how admirable that is.

It looks like each of you is projecting your own feelings towards this young mother. You certainly aren't reflecting mine.

You should get your news and information from a source that is not a liberal tabloid that has lost nearly $100 million in investor money since it's inception. Not sure that is a "reliable" source for understanding the economics of obamacare on business.

Do you truly think she even knew who Hannity was and even though he identified that she had to say yes to being on the radio I didn't get the sense that she understood she was on a national radio show and was being coached to be negative.

and again WHY would you think conservatives wouldn't be outraged that someone who was trying to do the right thing and work but got fired because they took a phone call from a radio talker ? She didn't say anything particularly negative about odumbocare.
You are wrong. WE would be outraged. She wasn't advised beforehand to NOT take such calls.
I think you should stop projecting how you feel onto conservatives. We would stand up for her and I am glad some are.

I agree with Mr. Deez. This would be a "fired for cause issue" with most conservatives if not for the fact that she worked in a healthcare.gov call center. The rest of her situation wouldn't matter. She's a valuable pawn though to some who have a recognizable political agenda (i.e. Hannity).

I'm not sure I'd laud anyone for getting an unsuspecting call center representative fired for TV ratings. To each their own though. I suspect this woman doesn't have time to worry about politics but rather wants to work to support her family.

Husker
so you are saying this young woman, hired by a company contracted by the US gov't to run ' call centers" for the federal exchange was hired " at will"?
Really? do you really think that? can you provide some proof?

can you provide some proof that she could be fired ' at will versus ' for cause'?

as for me making a big deal of it. read the posts. you and others seem to have your panties in a wad over this and keep making it a " big deal"
I OTOH applaud this young woman for working at any job she could find
and for being polite on the job. her work history is something to be admired

I guess you and your ilk would rather she'd taken all the gov't bennies and stayed home.

You mentioned how proud you are of your grandfather, How do you think he would feel about this young woman getting fired?
would he have fought for her ?

isn't Ne a right to work state?

You are entitled to your own opinion but NOT your own facts
I stopped reading after this from youl
'Conservatives are generally hostile to anything that erodes the at-will relationship (meaning the ability to fire someone for any reason or no reason). "

No sense in holding people accountable for their own actions in liberal world. It is always somebody else's fault and somebody else's responsibility to pay for it. Problem is, the bank account is overdrawn.

No disagreement on holding her accountable for her work. I was speaking to the poor single mother analogy...

I agree with Deez's initial posts, but at-will has different meanings based upon your race and gender. I am not speaking about literal interpretation of the law, but the reality. If I need to fire a white male under 40, no problem. If you are a minority, my employment attorney makes sure there is documentation, time and all doubt on our side.
