Obamacare Payment System

It just keeps getting better now that people are reading the law. Since the website is yet still not fully functional, the government will pay insurance companies based upon an estimate, then true up later. I am sure this will not result in any problems...And the sheep keep defending this disaster.

The administration is planning a “workaround” for payments, said Daniel Durham, vice president for policy and regulatory affairs at America’s Health Insurance Plans.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has not yet finished building the part of the website that would transfer billions of dollars in subsidies for plan premiums and cost-sharing payments to insurance companies.

Health plans will estimate how much they are owed, and submit that estimate to the government. Once the system is built, the government and insurers can reconcile the payments made with the plan data to "true up" payments, he said.

Progressive liberal ideology.
Emphasis on ideology

It blinds so-called "smart people" who desperately want to believe in something.

Do not trust Liberty.
Instead, trust the State.
Do not understand karma and laws of life.
Do not aspire to the awesome nobility of Soul..
Do not recognize that self-responsibility is the highest spiritual value in all of life.

And all of that is immature childishness.
As is this administration.

Which means, so too is much of the society that can be led by such a charlatan campaigner.

Experience is the teacher. Maybe we will learn from all this.
Will require a lot of people to grow up.
Or this country will become Detroit.

Anybody out there still in love with "Hope and Change?"

Another fun loophole is apparently the fact that people get a 90-day grace period on paying their premiums before their insurance plan is cancelled. But insurance companies are only on the hook for the first 30 days, meaning doctors get to go try and collect that bad debt.

But the real fun comes when people realize that since they can't be denied insurance, they can basically get on a plan, pay nine months, take three off, then go get a new plan and start over. Maybe there's a mechanism in place to prevent this?

I admire your optimism
'Maybe there's a mechanism in place to prevent this? "

WE all know the answer to that

The unions are not going to have to pay a certain fee, for I think a number of years. Somthing like $63 per union employee insured. That's for 2014. Then it drops after that.

The total of that funding to insurance providers was to offsent costs for insuring pre-existing conditions. The total deferred dollar amount is in the ballpark of $25 billion. That money will have to be paid by some other sources.

Guess who.

The biggest problem will be for the people that signed up using the website and are expecting to have insurance. Evidently there is an ongoing problem of the website getting the needed information to the insurance companies. Huge cluster coming in that regard. It would also make it hard to repeal obamacare as a portion of the population would have a gap in insurance coverage. In the old system, a gap in coverage as well as a pre-existing condition means no insurance for you.

good point, people with a gap in coverage
How many millions got policies cancelled that Bo said they could keep?
That problem hasn't been fixed yet
and now you have maybe thousands ( here is one good thing coming from the website failure, not that many have actually signed up and thought they paid) who think they signed up but will find out the insurance companies have no record of them.

It is not too late to junk the entire miserable failure. It will cost the taxpayers some money to do it but nothing compared to the waste it is

At least the people that got their policy cancelled know about it. The ones that signed up are currently under the impression that they will soon be covered which is not necessarily the case. All the problems that the website has on the front end taking in information, it also has on the back end in getting that information to the insurance companies. Often worse. They get pages of gibberish.

Can you imagine the feeling anyone would have who needs medical treatment after jan only to find out they don't have any insurance even thought they did everything BO asked them to do?

well at least Jay Carney has been telling people to check with their insurer to find out since the billion $ web site is so f'd up

You know what's missing from this thread? Pharmahorn and his undying love for this POS bill and blinding devotion in defending it.

Yeah this whole thing is just soooo great

My understanding is that the backside program to link up insurers and doctors isn't even built yet and would take 4-6 months to complete. Can anyone confirm this? If true this Crap kicks off in Jan with no possible way for anything to be processed.
