Obama waffles on campaign financing

Actually, he just gave a "I'll cross that bridge when I get to it" response both times. There is no point in him making any type of unilateral pledge right now because he's not certain to be the nominee. Is McCain also looking to make a contract with Clinton right now as well? He needs to sit back and wait. The Democratic primary is not over yet.

Ari Fleischer has stated that he has $150 million set aside for attack ads against the Dem. nominee. You know the "swift boat" type groups.

Obama would be stupid if goes into the general election with his hands tied. Why should he limit himself to the same amount that McCain has to spend when he can raise much, much more.

Even Pat Buchanon said he hopes Obama stays with his previous statements because Ari's group will destroy him.

Obama would be insane to tie himself to limited spending

nevermind what McCain says or would technically be limited too as well....there would be rep people in the background with bags of money

Poor Obama. No one was supposed to expect him to be consistent with his rhetoric. He's campaigned on "changing" the "Washington establishment". In reality, he's a politician's politician. Quickly becoming a caricature.

Let me see if I have this right, so far we have learned that Obama:

1. Won his first election to the Illinois Senate by having all of his political opponents removed from the ballot.

2. Has spent nearly $700,000 trying to buy votes from Super Delegates.

3. Has condemned 527s that supported Hillary in one primary and then remained silent about 527s that supported him in other primaries.

4. Has backed down from a commitment to take public financing.

5. Has a convenient "friend" named Rezko.

Yeah, this guy is going to change Washington.

He has not stated that he will not accept public financing.

If he can work out an agreement with McCain to keep the two parties from independent expenditures and to agree to both spend money to counter 527s, then I am sure they can work a deal.

Nothing about McCain doing the same thing? Hmm...

Obama should not accept public financing and handicap himself because a bunch of bitter conservatives on the Internet think he should.

He hasn't even said he won't do it.

He would be idiotic to handicap himself during the general election. I wish I could be surprised at how partisan hacks expect so much more of their opponent than of their own man.

just curious when did Ari tell you he had 150 mill set aside for attack ads?

It is scary when a self-proclaimed chosen one leads a movement wherein no one holds him accountable.

Republicans get to have a bit of fun too - watching Obama supporters call the first female candidate for president a "witch" and a "*****" while, ironically, denigrating the enlightenment of the blue-collar voters of their party.

Who said it is heresy to criticize Obama? Is defending him or explaining a misunderstanding suddenly equal to the Inquisition.

"I think he's an empty suit."
- "Well here are reasons that is untrue."
"STOP PERSECUTING ME!!!!"

SenateHorn –

Get over yourself. You appear to be wrapped around the axel hoping Obama decides to forgo public financing in the general election. Such an agreement may be the only way McCain does not get swamped for fundraising for the fall. As for the gullible sheep comments, I think I am capable of making my own judgments. Hell, I managed not to vote for W twice – that must count for something.
