The Imperial President may circumvent Congress once again and diminish our 2nd Amendment Privileges as he sees fit. We've always known he didn't give a crap about the Constitution.

He has everyone in America wanting to act on emotion and has backed the republicans into a corner because of this tragedy and will piss all that away with ignoring the Constitution. This is beyond scary because it is guns today and some other type of freedom tomorrow. I bet talk radio host heads are exploding about now.

If he pulls this stunt, you will see outright dissension in this country. Biden has shot off his mouth probably with a silent President's blessing for some kind of calculated move (aka Gay Marriage). Watch as the White House Press Secretary walks this asinine statement back.
 
To be fair, I will reserve judgment until I know what executive order he would try to implement. However, other than something very narrow like banning weapons on federal property or something along those lines, I can't imagine an executive order involving gun control that wouldn't be an abuse of the executive order authority (even if the law didn't substantively violate the Second Amendment).
 
Can you guys quit with the trampling on the 2nd Amendment ********?

There is an entire branch of the government dedicated to making sure that this does not happen.
 
I was watching MSNBC at the gym two nights ago (closest tv to me) and they had Chris Matthews talking to two other liberals about gun control. First, its really easy to see why their ratings suck. They all sat around and agreed on every point. At least fox will throw out a liberal at their five person table so there can be an arguement. But, they all agreed that dems must act quickly on gun control or the public interest will fade. So, they are flat out admitting that they cannot win this debate without making politics out of a tragedy. Obama is clearly going to try to capitalize on the emotion now or at least keep the gun control debate in the news. It will take emotion from the public for dems to get their way. If you take a look at what has been proposed over the last month, none of it would have prevented the Sandy Hook disaster. Possibly magazine size.
 
Doing it by executive order, right or wrong, would be the one of the biggest presidential mistakes in history. I hope he does not push this country into a greater level of civil unrest.
 
Look, if you are a politician you have to do/say something. If you don't want to spend money on mental health or impinge on gun selling/carrying/, like the GOP folks who manage Texas, you say "the only option is to arm yourself and have the right for concealed weapons holders to carry then with them everywhere they want. " There, no money spent and we give people the freedom to threaten or shoot their way out of bad situations. Hey at least you have a fighting chance.

If you are a liberal, you have to say you are going to limit the right of people to have guns that carry bigger magazines than seem reasonable for any purpose short of battling it out with Mexican drug Lords or overthowing an elected government too liberal for your tastes..

Will either strategy make any real difference? Well, maybe nothing statistically significant, but when you run for reelection you can say you did something.
 
To me it's pretty scary to start taking out elected officials. We have freedom of speech, assembly, association etc. that well exercised will prevent tyranny. When armed civilians start using assassination to choose who will rule -- we'll probably be ruled by someone so oppressive he's hard to kill.
 
HF93: after eliminating the right wing nuts, can we then flush out and eliminate the left wing nuts? That would be fair and balanced, no? But who gets to decide who the right wing nuts are? I suspect only left wing nuts would consider themselves properly acquitted to settle the matter. Similarly, the right wing nuts should be left to decide who the left wing nuts are and take care to eliminate them.

IMO, you don't have to be a right wing nut to be alarmed at the extent to which the executive branch, beginning in the Nixon administration, has expanded the scope of authority of that office and used executive orders to expand its powers. You may recall that Veep Cheney was obsessed with loosening the fetters of the Congress from what he considered excessive restraint on the powers of the WH.

Biden et al are no doubt frustrated because they see that there is little chance of getting much passed in the way of gun control and so they make mouth music about using executive orders to circumvent the nasty restrictions imposed by the constitutional scheme. Which is what Nixon got the heave ho for doing. And Reagan got a lot of the members of his administration convicted (and pardoned by W'[s Pappy) for circumventing the Constitution in the Iran Contra weapons for no hostages deals.

Eliminationist rhetoric may just be hyperbole but it is potentially dangerous when lots of angry people start using it.
 
Obama should just get it over with and issue a executive order making himself dear leader for life. It would be simpler that way going forward.
 
Roger35, are you for legalizing drugs that we have been unable to keep out of the hands of people that want them? I am because the time, effort, and money spent has been completely ineffective in keeping drugs out of the US. I am pretty sure that if we spent the same time, effort, and money on guns we would have the same result that we have with drugs now. Anybody can get whatever they want whenever they want. Im not for passing legislation just for the sake of "doing something". If you or anybody cares to outline a plan that would make these mass killing less likely, I would love to consider it. But, the plan has to be more than ban this and ban that - see the drug situation.
 
When civil war breaks out, where will we hold Roger35 and the other 66 liberals who will become POW's in Texas? Huntsville?
 
So Biden et al want universal gun background checks and I'm not arguing against them right now. But please tell me how this prevents Sandy Hook or Columbine?
