Obama: killing Americans without due process okay

This is a serious revelation. On the surface, I don't have a problem with them taking our Americans on foreign soil who are plotting against America. I'm not a lawyer though and don't think they have the legal authority do this.

Change the law to allow this rather than twist it to meet your needs.

So let me get this right. In the early years of the GWOT, a handful of high-level foreign AQ leaders...terrorists not protected by the Geneva Convention, are subjected to water-boarding, and that's supposedly considered by some (mostly on the left) as WITHOUT A DOUBT and as clear as black and white...illegal.

Yet, this administration okay's the assassination of American citizens, individuals protected by the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, without legal due process, judicial oversight, or even a threshold of actionable intelligence.

Awesome.

? In the NBC article it said just the opposite of this quote from the memo the victim being targeted by the US official does not have to have a probably direct linlk from NBC link
“The condition that an operational leader present an ‘imminent’ threat of violent attack against the United States does not require the United States to have clear evidence that a specific attack on U.S. persons and interests will take place in the immediate future,”
the memo states.

The Link

I am not surprised that supporters have no problem with this and killing 16 y o American citizens who might be near but got all wee wee'd up over 3
THREE known terrorists getting water boarded 8 years ago but are still alive today
and who even according to Panetta gave valuable intel

no no No hypocrisy there

If it was the GWB admin who released this memo, it would be the ONLY news story, and the media would be screaming at the top of their lungs about how horrible this policy is.

But since it is being done be THE ONE, nary a peep out of the house organ media outlets. The contrast between the media coverage of this policy paper and their coverage of the waterboarding question should be all any thinking American needs to see to understand how biased the mainstream media really is.

The lack of any response by supporters except for one who has no problem with it( and he/she apparently didn't read the memo since the memo says Bo and his minions don't even require proof the Americans they will murder are actively plotting against USA>

here
The condition that an operational leader present an ‘imminent’ threat of violent attack against the United States does not require the United States to have clear evidence that a specific attack on U.S. persons and interests will take place in the immediate future,
” the memo reads.

so supporters? Are you really ok with that?

Do you think there should be a higher standard for interrogating foreign terrorists than there is for Americans BO thinks is ok to murder?

and why be secret about it when bo promised total transparency?

Is this all part of the warm and fuzzy hot cocoa foreign relations we were promised over 4 years ago?

BI
That was not a real question was it?
I know you remember how BO was going to heal the world and improve relations with all those nations that hated Bush and therefore the USA.

And that has worked so well.

Announcing to the world that BO is willing to kill his own people without due process or even clear evidence would surely reassure those countries who routinely kill their own
as well as assure any nations whose people we have killed that SEE? We don't just kills yours, we will ours too.

We will even kill 16 y o innocent American civilians.

Break out the tea and cookies or even the hot chocolate

I've said all along, the problem I have with Obama is his seeming lack of respect for the three branches of government. They are separate. His first priority in office should be to maintain that separation, that respect. Lately it's been more "if Congress won't do it, I'll mandate it." Why even have a Congress? Right?Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the NY Times is a conservative organization.

Why is the rw against America? Why are they supporting this guy, whom Obama hooked up with the 72 odd damsels:

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Only in lefty world is water boarding 3 known terrorists reprehensible, but killing Americans without due process is "doing the right thing."

I'm generally in favor of drone attacks when warranted. Killing American citizens by American government should be questioned whenever it happens to be sure it is lawful and constituitional. This no matter who the President is or what party he/she represents.

My perspective is that the most interesting thing about this is the same people who didn't want the US government to waterboard suspected terrorists who weren't US citizens now are giddy that we are drone striking American citizens to death.

Roger, do you not agree that is quite a disconnect and separate from whether the Right Wing or anyone favors or not the killing of terrorists whether they are American citizens or not? Even W Bush had the "American Taliban"(John Walker Lindh) captured and tried. The Link

This guy is dangerous. The constitution and our rights mean nothing to this man. There's nothing I can do about it except laugh at the people that voted for this clown as they have their rights and pocketbooks abused.

Stop digging

from BO's nomination speech in Minneapolis in 2008
as he accepts the dem nomination
"we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth"

OMG

I used the word " world" and Bo used planet
gee BI you sure showed me up there.

As an aside I wonder how the millions of people without jobs and the millions who have dropped out due to no jobs feel about his remarks in 2008 on how he will create good jobs?

Zork, yes I agree with your broader point. I also believe that if an administration is so corrupt, so ideological, to go extra-constitutional, they will. That is what happened with the Bush administration with the Iraq war.

OTOH, you have a guy now who, unlike the crooks like Dubya and Cheney, does not jump at every opportunity to invade a country or start another idiotic war. The issue of drones needs to be resolved imo, mainly because a future president will not have the ethics, morals and good judgement of President Obama.

R35, take a look at the detailed list of drone attacks. Doesn't look like your guy thinks much at all when sending out drones, nor does he care about who actually gets killed.

US drone strikes

Wow I can see now why BO hasn't had time to create all thise jobs he promised.
Between ordering people, including anAmerican teenager, killed and playing golf BO has been hard at presidenting .

Perhaps a good Libertarian like BI( or a supporter like R35) can explaing why BO wanted to give KSM due process but didn't think an innocent American teen deserved the same

Hilarious deflection, 6271.

Newdoc asked:

"Is this all part of the warm and fuzzy hot cocoa foreign relations we were promised over 4 years ago? "

I asked for some documentation that Obama promised "war and fuzzy hot cocoa foreign relations" and you produce this quote:

""we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth"

Okay, now where is the part where he promises warm and fuzzy hot cocoa foreign relations?

You will have to ask a disciple of reverend wright yourself. I am not a follower:

" The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, not God Bless America. God damn America — that's in the Bible — for killing innocent people. God damn America, for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America, as long as she tries to act like she is God, and she is supreme. The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent."

There ought to be an enormous and united outcry of opposition when due process is flagrantly ignored by the American government in the name of fighting terrorism. This outcry ought to happen whether its a Republican or a Democrat administration in power. And we ought to be outraged whether it's a Republican administration declaring that "We're going to have to go to the dark side" (Dick Cheney on America's use of torture), or whether the Obama administration declares that the assassination of an American citizen "does not require the United States to have clear evidence that a specific attack on U.S. persons will take place..."

Very well said, Horn89!

Asserting the right to kill American citizens without due process strikes me as the height of unconstitutionality.
