He's taking names and resumes and ready to put people to work.....

As hokey and fake as he is most of the time, he is correct about one thing, if you are an engineer and not getting hired somewhere in this country, there is something wrong with your background or something. He may not be able to find a job in his city, but there are jobs in this country. His great, great grandparents may have fought harsh elements, dangerous natives and disease to get across the country for more opportunity. Perhaps he should jump in the comfort of a bus or airplane or drive his car or push a few keys on his keyboard to find work in another place.

I heard that on the radio this morning. The guy is in Texas too, DFW area I believe. Despite the slow moving economy I was surprised to hear that a semiconductor engineer cannot find a job. It's more likely that he isn't accepting positions that would put him in the underemployed category. That's a difficult place to be financially and emotionally.

I give BO credit for asking for the resume here.
I imgaine there is some underlying reason, like they don't want to move.

"As hokey and fake as he is most of the time, he is correct about one thing, if you are an engineer and not getting hired somewhere in this country, there is something wrong with your background or something" <<<Not necessarily true. I've recently joined the ranks of the unemployed here in Houston. And yeah, there are plenty of jobs out there, but what is not revealed and is the likely boat that that this semi-conductor engineer is in are that it is an employer's market, with hundreds of candidates vying for the same position. Company only needs 1 for that position and you have to be the top dawg to be hired.

I'm finding this in my environmental profession as well. Companies can be very selective, when the choices (candidates) are abundant.

Engineer is a vague term- this guy clearly should have a job but there are plenty of other engineering professions that are in a challenging environment right now.

Still- if I had a magic button I'd take 50% of the lawyers we have in law school and have them become talented engineers. And after that I'd have Mila Kunis come over to watch the Horns with me on my couch. To date neither things have happened.

You are exactly right.
Apparently the semiconductor companies are losing jbos.

And i did not know that companies bringing in H1-B engineers do not have to show they tried to hire an americans
so no wonder they hire foreign engineers at much cheaper wages.

I thought all companies were required to show they tried to hire Americans first.

Sounds like this lady's husband will have to retrain.
