Obama Halts White House Tours Due to Sequestration

Yeah, that's definitely jumping the shark. I hope he keeps it up. Eventually even with the media exaggerating the effects, people will see it for what it is. SNL won't be able to skip the easy satire.
 
Of course Rep. Gohmert of Texas goes one better by introducing a bill to not pay for the transportation costs of Obamas golf outings till he opens the White House tours up again. Classic.
 
Glad that my parents made it in last week before this BS. I don't really care if he wants to go this route, but the media should fry him the same way they would a R.
 
Petty politics. Boy I haven't seen anything this low since... yesterday. Getting back at GOP Congressmen who are thwarting his agenda in a tiny way. In Washinton, perks and playthings can turn into real power. Just ask the ghost of Rep. Wayne Hayes.
 
I seem to remember that White House tour passes are typically given out by Congressmen as a nice perk they pass onto their constituents. So if tourists going to Washington are hurt, the Congressmen feel some pain too. Pettiness causes lots of people to get hurt ...
 
My parents said that they had to contact their rep and tell them the days they were going to be there. They only found out about two weeks before their trip that they got it. Didn't especially enjoy it because you don't get to see too much.
 
From what I can tell, the Prez is essentially saying to the obstructionists - in your face. The people elected me not once but twice. So suck it up and live with that. If for some "other" reason you can't accept that fact, too bad, go sit in a corner and cry me a river, cuz all you b!@tches belong to me.

They elected him to provide leadership to his party and the nation. Why not direct the Democrat majority Senate to pass a rebuttal bill to the House bills passed?

We all know why not. Then the President and the Democrats will have to be on written record instead of the wait till it passes before you know what is in the law type of mode they prefer.

Where is the reasonableness and why doesn't Obama hold himself to the same standards as he held W to when O was in the Senate?

How many more 700 million+ dollar yearly budget shortfalls will it take?

and related to the fact that ALL people who wanted to tour the WH are hurt it is hard to see how R35 could try to gloat

The other interesting thing is other than the VOLUNTEERS who conduct the tours the ezpense was for SS who had to stand guard during a tour,
BUT the SS are still getting paid and are only doing other stuff so how is this a savings??
 
Good for Obama.

The tours are just another thing that we needn't be borrowing money from the Chinese to finance. As a big fan of smaller government, I applaud this step.
 
Shut down the White House and let them live in a condo. That would save millions of dollars. And use Air Force One only for necessary governmental trips. No vacations, no campaigning. Let the President pay for AF1 when he wants to use it personally - he can afford it. Michelle can't take 500 people with her. Again, millions of dollars. Then make Congress pay for their stamps and medical care. And their free haircuts. Millions. Eliminate "working vacations" for all agencies. Millions. Quit funding the study of the damn salamanders and other "studies" - nice but certainly not necessary to the continuance of our country. Millions.



Etc, etc, etc. There are so many cuts that would not affect the general population but BO will never Mae them. Better to preach doom and gloom and blame it n the Republicans.
 
I heard on the news this morning that ABC News estimates that it costs $18,000/week to run the WH tours. It costs $180,000/hour to fly AF1. One hour of not flying AF1 would run the WH tours for 10 weeks. No telling how many weeks not playing golf with Tiger Woods would buy. But, God forbid that BO not live like a Third World Dictator.

Perhaps ypu can explain exactly how stopping tours is going to save money?
and how much?

Please keep in mind that the agents who were usually on duty during tours will still get paid
and the guides were volunteers.

Obama is going to use this as to see how my suggestion cut money from the budget, as well uh painful as it was....we cut the budget......ahhh....see how my.....policies worked here.....versus the....Republicans....
