'Obama gave me a free phone, just sign up...

I'm sure I can find Romney supporters saying ignorant things on par with the woman in the video. There are uneducated people without critical thinking skills out there; the west mall is surely proof of that.

Cyclist. I think that's why most conservatives post this kind of stuff. The left love to crown their idiology intellectually superior based on a couple of misspelled signs at tea party rallies and one dick in wilco that decided to hang an empty chair.

If you can't take it. Don't dish it out(not you specifically)

Indeed neither political party has complete dibs on the stupid voter. One nice thing about posting here is there are a lot of intelligent posters who bring facts, considered opinions and a little wit. We should probably focus on what we like rather than what drives us nuts.

So are you against every company that gives things away to poor people? It certainly drives the cost up for the rest of us. And no it is not ignorant to point out that companies are footing the bill, not the federal government. For starters, that means the phones are actually paid for by revenue coming in and not adding on to the national debt.

So I assume the fact that you go to the site obamaphone.net is just a coincidence? No wonder people are confused and think he gave it to them.

And I wish more people understood that his "stash" is actually my money and your money.

there's a thread not too long ago that dealt with the lifeline phones. those interested should go back and read it. I don't really see how many peoples first instinct is too deride it. with communication is so vital to life in the modern world, it isto nearly as essential as food. I do not see how you can be against providing a basic level of service. Unless of course you arre against all aid to the poor.

AS I read the OP the issue was how people perceive who gives them this free phone

Did this person just receive her phone 'from obama" even though the program has been around for years?

I know the BO admin spent our money advertising for people to get food stamps ( now 47 million receive them)
so did BO admin advertise to give away phones?

and slightly off OT but has anyone else ever been puzzled by the number of people with the latest smart phones using EBT( food stamp ) cards?

Somewhat interesting from the Obamaphone website:

Over 8 million people have already signed up for the Lifeline program and up to 35% of Americans are qualified. Click here to see if you are qualified or click here to find out how to get a free cell phone.

If you, or members in your household are, receiving the following benefits you automatically qualify for the Lifeline program. Those interested in the program must have an income of less than 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. (For example in the 48 Contiguous States and D.C the income level is $22,350 per year for a family of four.)

Food Stamps or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
Medicaid
Supplemental Security Income – commonly known as SSI
Health Benefit Coverage under Child Health Insurance Plan (CHIP)
The National School Lunch Program’s Free Lunch Program.
Low-Income Energy Assistance Program – LIHEAP
Federal Public Housing Assistance ( Section 8 )
If you are a low-income Eligible Resident of Tribal Lands
Temporary Assistance to Needy Families – TANF

Why do people need free CELL phones? Wouldn't it be cheaper to provide them with free home phones and they wouldn't have minute limits?

Just a guess but i would say:
1. Highly mobile population often not living in their own home.
2. Land lines are about 30/month I believe. They can probably get them a dirt cheap cell phone with 250 mins/month for about that price or less.

Agree that this has nothing to do with Obama except that there is the perception that voting a certain way will get you freebees from the government.

I don't agree that it is necessary to have a cell phone. Until forced to have one by work I didn't have on until pretty recently. Landline will take care of emergencies. Also I heard that they get 250 minutes per month. More than is needed for emergencies. Also heard that they can add data plan for $10 a month. It's government run amok IMO. I could easily make the case that in certain areas, a car is more vital than a cell phone. Why not free cars?

Found it,

This was from a 2010 report. The low income program was 16.5% of the USF, at 1.3 billion. A majority of the funds, 53.7% goes to the High Cost program.

My favorite part is that Obama is using the free phones he gives out to campaign. The numbers are registered, and he can then send recorded messages to each one spewing his liberal drivel about his next handout.

One more debate/***-kicking aaaaaannnnnnd Urkel better save one of those phones to call that village in Kenya missing their idiot.
