So Obama says today that if we make some slight changes to Social Security it would last for another 75 years.

WHAT ARE THOSE CHANGES, PLEASE SHARE, TELL US WHAT COULD ENABLE SOCIAL SECURITY FOR THE NEXT 75 YEARS, WHAT???????!!!!!!!!!!!

AT least W recognized there was a severe problem with SS. he was laughed at by media and dems who insistted SS was quite solvent.
Bush put his plan out there and asked for other people to offer suggestions too

PART of his plan would have allowed workers under to manage up to 3 % of their own funds in the private sector. even accounting for stock market downturns they would still be ahead.Yes they would have lost some of the gain but they would still be ahead and it would be in their hands.

What if we had actually started addressing this problem in 2001?

It's easy to fix SS, which is why Ryan addressed Medicare and not SS in his plan (he felt it was too tempting of a cop put, and would be useful in negotiations to have that out there). If the president announced tonight that the SS Trust Fund of non-tradeable Special Issue bonds is an accounting fiction (he tacitly admitted as much prior to the shutdown when he threatened the non-issuance of checks), the deficit would be reduced $3.5 trillion.

Raise the tax 2% and allow an independent commission to put the surplus in any securities they like. That's the fix.
