oahu hawaii

I am heading to oahu in less than two weeks for 16 days. I was looking forward to hanging on the beach and shopping pretty much the whole time, (except for seeing Pearl Harbor), but since my son had to give up going in order to attend UT, I am now going to be my husband's sight-seeing companion.

Someone please tell me how long the flights are to Maui and the other islands as I hate flying as it is, and now i have to get on a small plane to go between islands and the thought of that just scares the crap out of me.

Tell me its not that bad.

Agree with Puddle, the planes are full size and not "scary". Let me give you a word of advice. I bought my ticket to go from Oahu to Kauai on the day of departure and they only had first class (expensive). I had no choice as I had to get to the other island. Fist class turned out to be the first row ( and only the first row). I got a beer for free (cost about $100) and barely had time to drink it. Moral of story: Book ahead of time

I did the interisland flights on Hawaiian airlines in May and they weren't bad at all... Once we were on a really big plane 2-3-2 seating configuration, I think... The other was Super 80 configuration. Each flight was barely long enough for the flight attendants to get down the aisle and distribute juice cups. It was not a bad flight at all...

If you're really wigged out about flying, you could check out the new Hawaii Super Ferry... Lots of folks in Hawaii are opposed to it for environmental reasons, but it's an option... We saw it coming into Oahu...

The North sore of Oahu is also nice and very different than Waikiki. I'd HIGHLY recommend renting a car and checking out the rest of the island outside of Honolulu and Waikiki... There are some beautiful sights and some almost deserted, gorgeous beaches.

from what i understand things have changed quite a bit recently on the inter-island flights: a lot less capacity on those routes. if you haven't booked yet, maybe you'll be in luck and have to hang out at the beach and shop locally, as you originally wished.
