ok, i lived at 54th and 8th for 2 years (04-06). i'm taking my wife in March and looking for a hotel in the general area. no way will i stay in times square, but i wonder if she'll like that (W Times Square).

anyone ever stayed at the Intercontinental Barclay, The Muse, Ritz at Central Park, anywhere else i should look for?

*trying to use AMEX points to pay for all this.

The Barclay is a nice hotel but is over on Lex, not west side.
It is right across from the original W on lexington and there is also the Marriott midtown right there. All are nice spots for the fall excursions without the crowds of TimesSquare.

We stay at the Ritz or St. Regis when in NYC. Both are good hotels. The Palace is another great one.

You said no Times Square, then wonder about W Times Square? My current favorite is Hilton Times Square. Rooms are oversized, airy and a respite from the City. Enter on the 41st Street side and you wouldn’t know any better. There’s a passageway that connects over to 42nd. You pass through security to elevators to the sky lobby on the 28th floor. Rooms from 29th thru 44th floor. I’m also partial to “Trattoria Dopo Teatro” a couple of blocks to the NE. But if you must impress, then The Carlyle is the place (but that’s coming from an old upper East-sider).

My favorites are The Shoreham Hotel on W 55th and The Mansfield on 42nd or 44th... don't remember the exact street.

thanks for all the input. i ended up booking ritz @ central park. i know that area really well so it should make for an easier trip.

thanks again - K
