NYC Hotels Near Times Square

Going to NYC mid-March and have yet to book a hotel room. Overwhelmed honestly with all the choices. Wanting to stay in the Times Square area...finding lots of 4 stars for $250 or so per night. Any recs on where to stay? Also, any luck through Hotwire or Priceline?

If you don't have a strong preference for any location, definitely go with Priceline. If you're getting quotes of $250 at the hotels, you may be able to sneak in with a $125 - $150 bid as long as it's not a busy weekend. All the hotels are pretty similar in quality I think, so just go with the price/location closest to subways if you don't do Priceline.

I have stayed twice at the Econolodge Times Square. It is small and old and decidely not fancy, but it is a relatively cheap place to stay and in a perfect location.

I stayed at the Iroquois on 44th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenenue in December... Its a boutique hotel... we enjoyed it...

we were there during a very busy time of the year so we didn't price line, but my advice is to use priceline and shoot for times square area if that is where you want to be.

"Second" on the Milleneum Broadway.

Got it on hotels.com as part of a flight/hotel package, and couldn't have been happier. Definitely a legit 4-star in comparison to other 4-stars available on similar travel sites.

In order to answer this question properly who will be staying in the room and what activities are you planning on doing in this room?

If you have a family of 3 or 4 you will need to pay for a room at one of the top notch places, the Millenium is a great choice as would be the Embassy Suites or Mariott Marquite. If it is just you or you and your wife then you can stay at an older place and the room will be quite a bit smaller but still very nice. Be careful not to get too good of a deal and you'll show up and a have a full size bed with a foot of space on either side and a wife/girlfriend who isn't happy. Having a female who isn't happy means you won't be happy, and that makes for a not so fun trip, especially when attempting to "sleep" at night

I'll put in a 3rd endorsement for the Broadway Millenium.

My firm forces me to stay at the Marriott Marquis. It's your run of the mill Marriott but I've paid as little as $189 per night in the past. Rates there seem to swing all over the place. If you can score it in the $190 to $250 range, I'd grab it.

i used to work for hilton and have stayed at the doubletree times square and the time square hilton.

time square hilton is actually a couple blocks off, but real close. as most of the hotels down there, it doesn't actually start until several floors up. there is a movie theater and other stuff underneath. it's a nice hotel that has been redone. the food was crazy expensive ($35 hamburger at room service) but really good.

double tree time square is better. it is actually right on time square and the rooms are like embassy suites.... you know, the two room suites. not real nice, but updated. location, location.

Hilton Times Square is my NYC home away from home. The block it’s in adjoins Times Square/Broadway and the hotel starts on the 22th floor. The street level elevators are guarded and only go up to the Hotel’s sky lobby.

Rooms are oversized, light, airy and I’ve never had one that didn’t seem like new. Request an even number/South exposure room. Those are even bigger. There’s absolutely no reason to eat at the hotel. Try Trattoria Dopo Teatro at 125 W44th.

I stayed at the Marriott in Times Square for a week a few years ago. LOVED the place. It's central to most everything, and a very nice hotel. There is also a bar ontop of the hotel that rotates so you can see the whole skyline from your seat.

Also stayed at the Westin Times Square too. I liked it as well, but it is one block from TS.

You could also go to the SoHo Grand.....it's in SoHo.

Settled on the W on Lexington Ave...mainly due to price. Figured the wife will like the "hip" feel and it's only a few blocks from everything. Now I've gotta hope for decent weather in mid-March.
