Mitt Romney...we hardly knew ya.

I'm glad you liked it. It's going to finish off the legitimacy of Romney's campaign. But really, enjoy it. The guy makes me sick...and anyone who holds the views he expresses in the video does also. I did not know someone could be so out of touch with the realities of America.

Romney is not a bad guy but if you look at the way he has lived, he has not ever experienced having a real sick kid and not being able to afford insurance or not being able to afford payments on a car or the insurance for it or the cost of gas or getting it fixed when something goes wrong and losing his job as a result.

That world is alien to him and he should not be derided for not understanding it or why so many people think the safety net is the most important thing the government does.

My family had a grocery store in a poor part of town and eventually went broke as a reult of giving credit to people without jobs. Most paid eventually but enough didn't that in the long run it killed the enterprise after twenty years.

Most of the people in the neighborhood had jobs all the time but some just scraped by, especially the ethnics who followed the crops and whose kids missed a lot of school.

When the Great Society got set up things changed. You didn't see malnutrition, the kids got to settle in for school and started graduating and the old ones did not just die from lack of access to health care.

There are people who abuse the system, we see them in line at the store with their Lone Star cards buying lotto cards with their cash, but without the VA and medicare/medicaid, Wic, etc. this country would be a much harsher place to live for millions.

As for lots of people not paying income taxes, they pay every other kind of tax, directly or indirectly, and a good number of their kids are fodder for the incessant wars.

I don't care for Obama much but Romney and his ilk are class warriors just as assuredly as the community organizer is.

Huis -- enjoyed your personal vignette. I've known rich people and I've known impoverished people. There are some good folks who struggle hard and don't get anywhere. There are a lot of rich people who are generous to the core and humble as guy mowing your yard. I used to laugh at the frat boys at UT whining about the underclass -- single mothers on welfare and the like -- driving an Olds Cutlass daddy's money paid for and nothing to worry about but fraternity parties, sorority girls and how to pass 12 hours of classes each semester.

Romney nailed it.

Over 40% of Americans do not pay federal income tax. Check.
Of the ones I know, they are all expecting someone else to cover their medical bills, and in some cases food and housing. Check.
Millions of American adults have shown no ability to take responsibility for themselves, and there is no reason to think any politician can change their minds. Check.

I would much sooner trust a guy who says stuff like this when he thinks he is off the record than the guy who accuses the opposition of taking refuge in guns and religion and transmits information to Vladimir about his "flexibility" if reelected.

I also hear Romney has shown disdain for.....
Religious people
Gun owners
Cops
his grandmother
US Supreme Court Justices

Yeah, that's one petty individual with a lot of animosity towards a wide range of people

Moderator, another has a better, longer thread on this topic... please delete my thread. It generated a dumb dialog. the other one works.
Thanks.

I've asked moderators to delete this thread.
Another thread is treating the topic better.

I love the "stark reality" talk.

Per David Brooks, this is also part of the 47%.

The people who receive the disproportionate share of government spending are not big-government lovers. They are Republicans. They are senior citizens. They are white men with high school degrees. As Bill Galston of the Brookings Institution has noted, the people who have benefited from the entitlements explosion are middle-class workers, more so than the dependent poor.

But if you're finally going to criticize all the elderly, white, high-school only educated voters, then more power to you.

Clean, the only reason this can hurt Romney while Obama's flaps over the years is that the media is lock-step in his back pocket. My wife had GMA on this morning, and while I was feeding my infant, I think it was safe to assume that George Stpe had a raging hardon while bringing up the topic. Speaking the truth hurts Romney more than lying will ever hurt Obama. The backtracking his administration does on a daily basis is near completely whitewashed by the media.
