Nutrition, Protein Powder, Gen. Health

I recently set up an appointment at whole foods with one of their nutritionist for diet advice. I am about to turn 43, am in generally good health and am currently training for the Longhorn 70.3 triathlon. I pretty much got the feedback you would expect i.e. everything organic, fruits and vegetables for your carbs, lots of animal proteins and appropriate amount of fats hopefully from nuts etc. She also had a big push against dairy, gluten and soy based proteins which was somewhat new to me. Any thoughts on this from people in the know?

She definitely pushed the Jay Robb brand of protein powders and bars and was hoping for other suggestions or verifications. Thanks in advance for any input.

Be careful with soy-based products. They have shown to decrease testosterone for some. I like Biotest products. ProGrade is another good option.

Did you ask the nutritionist about her credentials? I'd probably also seek the advice from a sports dietitian. There's a big difference between a "nutritionist" and a registered dietitian's training/ education. I happen to be married to a dietitan so I feel like I'm "in the know".
