Nuevo Leon

This is definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in town. Friends introduced me to the place while I was a sophomore, and I go back at least once a month. The service is good, the food is excellent, and the Margaritas are forgetful (so good you forget everything that happened). I would pick this place over all the other Mexican establishments in town.

The first time I went to Nuevo Leon I was supposed to meet some friends there and I ended up showing up about 30 minutes late. Well you would have thought I was 3 hours late because my friends at the table were already looking sloppy-drunk. They forced me to expedite the drinking process, and I slammed down two of those margaritas. I felt fine until I stood up and nearly fell over onto the table of the couple sitting next to us. Food is decent, drinks are great, fairly close to the downtown scene so I recommend it for anyone who isn't afraid of mixing Mexican food and a night of 6th street revelry.

They have been fighting City Council to get some zoning changed in order to move from their less than attractive East Austin location to downtown near Town Lake. I hope they are successful because as much as I love their food, the neighborhood is not exactly what I would call secure. Don't leave any valuables exposed in your car. They will be gone ... count on it.Their enchiladas are good as you will find anywhere in Austin. All said & done, it's worth the effort to get over to East 7th.

One of my absolute favorite joints, been a regular since about 1984. The Margaritas are the best in town, BAR NONE! But if you are considering heading on over to 6th street never, ever have more than one. They have gotten all their zoning approved and are hoping to be in their new location by July sometime. The new location will be much larger and is where La Tapatia used to be for those Austin oldtimers, on East 6th.One of the great things about Nuevo Leon is that I talked Kevin into serving Orange Margarita's on gamedays. I even got their waitstaff to wear my HeisMon T shirts two years ago. The other great thing about Nuevo is that if you are a regular they will take a reservation for you!!! At the new place with more space non-regulars may also get this perk.Nothing like standing up and singing the Eyes of Texas post game with an Orange Margarita!">

I suggest you skip this place until they learn how to manage their new bigger location. Unless you are in a party of 2, the minimum wait is 1 1/2 hours on game day. Ridiculous.
