Now McClellan is transferring

Sounds like Barnes isn't in any hurry to sign his release.

Nice. We lose two guards and Kabongo could be the third if he chooses to go pro. I guess this is going to be another rebuilding year. lol

Really? McClellan had a pedestrian year at best:

38% FG % = poor
27% 3pt % = piss poor for a guard(Brad Buckman and Conner F'n Atchley were as good or better from 3)
.5 A/TO ratio(29A/57TO) =horrible liability
3.9 rebs a game= not bad for a guard
83% FT% = really good(which means he can shoot but didn't FG's)

That in total reflects what I saw every time I saw him play which was a: WTF dude, I thought you were supposed to be the leader of the squad? Those stats are the anti-clutch player stats.

He had an off year and now he wants to take his ball and go home instead of working hard over the summer and coming back ready to play? Fine. He won't do **** if he has stats like that anywhere else.

Play productive minutes and you play. Stink it up and you sit.

It will be interesting to see how those numbers improve under another coach.

It's not like McClellan was the only player on the team shooting poorly, making mistakes and showing little, or no improvement this season.

Smart move on Sheldon's part. His stats referred to above, aren't great, but he happened to be the best scorer on the team. Barnes had some kind of grudge against him, and in my opinion, for whatever reason, he became the coach's scapegoat. It made little sense for, say, Demarcus Holland to get so many minutes when he was little scoring threat on a team that desperately needed points. Good luck to McClellan. Hope he lands somewhere where he will be appreciated. Barnes is becoming more and more a disaster.

This is really intriguing because I am interested to see how Sheldon will do at another school. I would not say it would be the ultimate decider as to whether Barnes is worth a **** or not, but it could give us some major insight. I think Sheldon has a ton of talent and could thrive in a good offensive system as a spot up shooter. He can also create his own shot, at times, but is never going to be the takeover scorer that Barnes tried to get him to be.

Barnes played his mind games on Sheldon like he did with Damion James and others. It just never worked with Sheldon and now Sheldon is going to try and find another school/coach that he can click with. I have no problem with this move by this young man. He was not getting the most out of his potential at the University of Texas and under Rick Barnes.

Did you watch the games Zork? McClellan was in the doghouse since mid-season in favor of Holland. His numbers were far better then. McClellan rarely played after that. He was statistically having a pretty good year before that. McClellan was our only player that could get to the FT line with regularity. He was often forced to shoot bad shots late in the shot clock because of the horrible offensive execution prior to Myck coming back. At that point he rarely played, though you could see with their few minutes on the floor together that he and Myck had good chemistry. If you want to talk TOs, look at his replacement who if he didn't turn it over, would often hoist horrible shots or dribble/pass into horrible spots. McClellan was not yet what some hoped, but he was a Sophomore averageing 17 pts/game at one point. Then Barnes went on his play Shelfon 5 minutes per game for the last month stuff. He did this with Hamilton. He did this with J'Covan Brown. He did this with Damien James. Its like they say when you repeatedly get dumped; maybe its you. In this case, maybe its Barnes.

No, its my inference based on what I observed and read. I think it started out as a coaching mind game to try to "teach Sheldon a lesson," but to me it became more than that. A stupid power struggle that he was bound and determined to win, even at the expense of his own team. If it were just motivational, I think he would have realized it wasn't working and played Sheldon more to get his production. I think it became driven by emotion (anger, pride, grudge, whatever you want to call it) on Barnes' part. Otherwise, there's no accouting for it logically.

I hardly think this was a surprise to many. He mostly just went through the motions against Houston and it was pretty obvious he had already made his decision.

He just didn't do it early like Bond.

You really can't win with this group. Mack lets his players feel entitled and doesn't bench them when they play like crap. Barnes plays "head games" by benching his players when they play like crap.

It doesn't take a basketball genius to watch this team and see that Sheldon would just disappear for long stretches. When he brought his game, you noticed, because he can play. It also doesn't take a prophet to see the guards coming in (and potentially coming in) and the speculation that they're going to be playing right out of the gate, and know that Sheldon's playing time is in serious jeopardy.

Sheldon didn't work on the parts of his game that became a liability with the departure of J'Covan Brown. He should have taken over more of a slasher and ballhandler role, yet those were probably the weakest parts of his game in 2013.

He was plain awful against UH, as the writing was clearly on the wall. Make one of those jacked-up, pitiful, no-time-off-the-clock shots and we win that game. It was his swan song, to be sure.

I don't fault Barnes for this. Sheldon was a huge disappointment this year.

I didn't see as much terrible play from Sheldon as some of you evidently did. Still, even if he checked out for periods of time or whatever the charges against him are, we needed scoring badly. I did not see such fabulous defense from Holland, not to mention almost no scoring. I expected a lot, because of the coaches talking him up to the media, but it never came. It was just plain weird to see Sheldon sitting on the bench for almost entire games when we were behind and desperate for points. Something wrong with that picture. I suppose Barnes was happy to see him go. That's what his coaching conveyed, that he was not valued or wanted.

Joe - I did watch Holland quite a bit because I was interested to see what the hype was about. The guy worked seriously hard on defense. Really sticking with his guy in a man-to-man and then working really hard on his space in the zone. He was a good (not great) defender. Agree that he was not anything special on offense (even a liability). Not sure his defense made up for the poor offense. Would rather have Sheldon's offense on the court and put up for the (sometimes) lack of effort on defense.

Dear those of you who see no evil, hear no evil,

Mack and Barnes are not getting it done. It's not a matter of being a hard-*** or a coddler. It's a matter that Barnes is done. Period. There is no connection to anything except the fact that the program has been run aground. As for Mack he has been paid $35-40 million since Vince left and the past three years are a testament to the parade he decided to enjoy while Nick Saban and others continued to work as if they were starving for their first win. There is no doubt about this. Now Mack is whining about knowing who his friends are and how it's only about the kids. It's a complete joke and the reasons don't really matter. What has happened has happened and he is an out of touch coach. They both are past their prime. For some reason talking about this is on par with wondering if there is a God.

Texas has painted itself into a second rendition of the old Southwest Conference. We are back-watered, with the presence of the inane Longhorn Network resulting in even less visibility for our programs. The Big 12 conference is a complete joke. Texas needs desperately to rid itself of the LHN, although truthfully ESPN likely does that for us, and to find a more stable permanent conference affiliation before questions of the right coaches is even worth addressing. As it is, we can just focus on our academics and look to be Rice on steroids as far as student body size- Texas drove itself off the cliff in athletics.

Would you want this year's team to have had more national exposure? I'm kind of glad very few people saw this group play.

I don't care who you are at the G or SG position if you are shooting that ****** from the field , from 3, and also have a .5 A/TO ratio you are sucking and deserve what you get if it is a bunch of bench time.

Productive minutes should be getting the time on the court. Take care of the ball and score when you get the chance. That might mean passing it up if you have a risky shot and being careful where/when you pass.

Carefree ball security is a killer and loses games. FT percentage won't alone get it done.

Stats can tell the story and are more reflective of the truth in this case, with this player.
