Anyone else watch this? Nova puts together a group of varied folks of assorted non-fitness levels to see if they can take an "average joe" and get them across the finish line at the Boston marathon.

It was interesting to me from a fitness, body composition perspective. For those that don't have an understanding of VO2 Max, body comp and the science of exercise it's like a cliff notes version of the basic concepts. Also shows the gradual and progressive training concepts used to improve human performance over time.

Anyhow I found it interesting and just wondering if anyone else saw it?

No, but I'll keep an eye out for a repeat.

Discovery Channel ran a show called Livin' the Dream that took two recreational riders and prepared them for a stage of the TdF. Unfortunately it was condensed down to an hour and didn't show nearly as much detail as I would have liked.

interesting that few of them really lost any wait. That totally bummed me out. How about that woman who had to walk the last 15 miles because she had a sharp pain in her foot... that turned out to be a shard of glass!

Exercise and fitness do not automatically translate to wieght loss. increased muscle mass (added calorie burning potential) and caloric restriction are the best means to lose weight.

They didn't go back and do the body mass index numbers again from what I remember. What was interesting was the visual of the person who was right on the money as far as "ideal weight" but that weight was as high percentage of fat as the gal with the extra 70 pounds.

I found it interesting that the varying non-fitness levels were with gradual training increases was able to complete the race.

And yes that sliver lf glass must have really pissed her off when she found out what it was later.

If I remember correctly, only one women experienced a significant change in body fat and it was because in addition to running she changed her diet because she wanted to lose weight.
