Nothing wrong with these pay cuts

Link "20 Huge Spending Cuts Republicans Want To Make Right Now"

The spending cuts listed here -- reaching $2.5 Trillion over 10 years -- appear to have nothing to do with social security and other entitlement payments. I have no problem with slashing these in the aim of belt-tightening, and am perplexed Obama and his side have issues against them.

Can someone route me to a more definitive list of the cuts Obama is standing firm against? The stuff in this report looks like so much pork and has nothing to do with social security, government payroll, etc.

Thx.

These look pretty reasonable to me, but I do see why Democrats would have a problem with them. They all basically screw with Democratic constituencies and priorities, especially unions. It totally cock-slaps unions.

I noticed that too, but why can't both sides pose 20 spending cuts a piece and them work to agree on a final 20? It would be good for the country.

While tackling the big issues would be the pulling of the band aid, I don't believe starting there is realistic. There would be too many Politico Heads on the chopping block. Start small build consensus and then going after bigger and bigger items for both sides.

All this gun violence legislation is nothing more then an Obama head fake to avoid the tough decisions facing this nation around spending, entitlements and tax reform. A completely gutless leader.

Here's what gets me... I'm past the qualification age for retirement, so I am receiving a check for SS benefits and am enrolled in Medicare.

Yet I still work and make a pretty good earning and still pay taxes. If I continue to work, which I feel I will, I keep paying taxes into the system and get benefits. I'm also paying supplemental insurance that is an annual expense and am forced to pay for drug prescriptions even though I hate drugs.

I wish at my eligible retirement age (65 yr 8 months) they had made me this offer: waive all SS benefits including medicare/medicaid and prescriptions drugs...and you never pay taxes again. You will have paid into the system for 45 or more years (helping those requiring benefits while you worked) but if you want to waive getting YOUR benefits, you've done enough for your society already and you can just take care of yourself if that is your wish and you want the risk.

I would take that in a heart beat. Why won't the government help defer entitlement costs by allowing all those over retirement to forego benefits in exchange for being cut loose to take care of themselves? Let me take the risk. I might be down and out, but that's my choice to make it or break myself on my own terms.
