Nothing To Play For?

I've read this and heard the Gameday guys saying it.

Excuse me, but if Texas wins today it guarantees a winning season and gets a slightly less crappy Bowl game.

They better play like they have something to play for.

7-5 and now hopefully 8-5 will be much easier to stomach and hopefully help with recruiting.

Horns came out today as I thought they would. Showed a lot of heart dominating the last 3 quarters.

It was alittle bewildering at first, but the 'Horns came through. Yeah, Orlando's defense did not stop the pass but they stuffed the run and stopped the scoring. The guys showed-up for each other and the few true fans. Kudos for them.

And kudos to everyone who still believed in the Coaches and players, the TEAM. I think next year could be a whole different story. We can discuss that next May-August.

Totally impressed with my fellow fans that showed up braving what turned out to not be so bad weather. Hookem, wish it wasn’t over.

A real player and competitor will always play to win for pride and because winning burns inside of him.

Guys who say we have nothing to play for didn't play the game or if they did they never felt that burn.

A lot of young players got a little seasoning this year and know where they have to improve for next year.

Young guys like Boyce, Owens, and Watson got some valuable experience (sometimes painful experience in Owens’ case) and should be noticeably better next year. The injured veteran guys should be healed up. All joking aside, I really do think we’ll be quite a bit better in the D backfield.

What I didn’t like the most this year was the gross failure of the training staff/team doctor by clearing BJ Foster to play in a game or two that he clearly was far too injured to be able to play in. One game he was so injured (shoulder/upper body) that he couldn’t even tackle. That’s not so much on him—BJF is real tough young man and, of course, he will say he’s good to go. That’s on the training staff/dr for clearing a badly injured man. Let him properly heal.

I want to win as much as anyone, but I'm not willing to do so at the expense of a young man's future. BJ never should have been on the field. This is a matter for CDC and he needs to step in and let TH know that he is the man in charge of the injury tent. The Doctors in there answer to him and not to the coaches. Those doctors need to have the balls to tell the staff and players when they should not be playing.

I'm going to also lay some of the blame for our injuries at the feet of Yancy McKnight. He needs to take a page from boxing trainers. He needs to learn how to get the most out of the players in a cycle pattern that gets their bodies prepared for football season so they are not so fatigued they are more susceptible to injuries. Also with the new tackling rules the new form tackle involves more of the shoulder, that means more emphasis needs to be given to shoulder and back workouts.
