Not a Fan

I enjoy watching basketball and I'm a huge UT fan. But even when they are good, Rick Barnes teams provide poor entertainment. Lots of defense, missed shots and setting up for shots so long that even the players seem to lose interest. Last night I tuned in from channel switching to watch part of the game with UCLA. I spend about 10 minutes and excepting free throws nothing a UT player did with a basketball came within hailing distance of the basket. Penders teams were not as good, on average, as Barnes, but they were a lot more fun to watch.

Agree about Penders' teams. And he was extremely fan-friendly, bringing a couple
of players down to the Burnt Orange room after the games to talk to the fans.
Barnes refused to do this from day one, as is his right, but Penders had more fan
interaction and that is always good, especially when things turn sour at the games.
Ask John Mackovic about that.

I saw a comment from Sheldon McClellan a while back intimating that Barnes isn't close with his players. Perhaps I took it out of context, but I just found it strange that a player would make that comment to a reporter.

I'm not saying they should be best friends, but there seems to something missing. Something that coaches like Brad Stevens and Shaka Smart have with their players.
