Normathon: re Pat Summerall

I say this as a very good fan of Pat Summerall from the 80s and 90s, but listening to him on the radio just now was painful.

The guy slurs his speech, hesitates, has trouble talking in complete sentences, this is nothing like the Pat of old.

Then Norm makes things worse, by repeating the same exact line of questionning, made them both look like they're going senile.

I believe this year's Cotton Bowl could easily be Pat's last broadcast. D. Johnston better be doing an incredible amount of homework, becasue he's gonna have to carry the load.

I just don't get it. Why don't the network execs. even listen to a broadcaster? It's embarrassing for a lot of people, mostly the network that employs him.

He would be a great interview if you knew you were listening to an old retired player, someone who doesn't make his living in front of a microphone. But as someone who will be calling a game, this is way below acceptable, IMO.

this is weird - Summerall was on when I first turned it on this mornng and I had the exact opposite reaction. I expected old and slurred, but I thought he spoke very crisply, definitively and had some good insight. Enjoyed hearing him talk about the 3 announcers he learned from - Ray Scott, Jack Buck and Chris Schenkle.

Different strokes...oh, that may not be good term.

I'm with Horn69. I really enjoyed the interview and thought he sounded great. He has struggled on TV recently, but that interview was a lot of fun.
