nook, iPad and online subscriptions

My honeymoon is in a few months, and I've decided to buy my fiancee and I a new iPad to keep her mind off of the long flight (and her fear of flying). As well as the iPad, I've got some gift cards that I'm going to use to pay for half of a Nook Color reader.
The question I've got is, if I were to purchase an online magazine subscription for say, Motor Trend, would the same subscription be accessed on both the iPad and the Nook? Or, do I have to buy a subscription for each of the two devices for the same magazine title?

In the same vein as the OP (sorta)... I am going to buy my 89 yr old father an IPad.

I visited the local AppleStore, but forgot to ask:

Since Dad has an existing print subscription to Forbes and WSJ, does the IPad allow access to these sites (as an example; I already know that a Forbes print-subscriber gets you Net access as well)

Or is there some fee-based thing that Apple has independently put-in-place for their selected sites?

Newspapers are all different- but usually have an account that you log into.

Be sure the same account is not logging on in multiple places at the same time. And, also, be careful if you downloaded an app for the newspaper or magazine- that it is not exclusive of other locations/devices you can read from.

In short- there is no general rule, each publication is unique.
