SLX mentioned in the Sampson thread that this kid was looking extremely hard at IU, but with the new problems that he would possibly be a possibility for us. Who is this kid? What does he offer as a player and how likely is it for us to get him? Thx in advance.
He's a tall do everything guard in the 6'4 range. He's not necessarily a stud in any one category, whether it's defense, athleticism, shooting, ball handling, or passing, but he's adept at all the phases of the game.
There's a guy who is a graduate assistant at Indiana right now who was a student manager for Sampson at Oklahoma. After Sampson left, the guy stayed at OU for a year to complete his degree. He'd drive down to the metroplex for every one of Dennis's game, and put Dennis on the phone to talk to Sampson. Over that time, he grew pretty tight with Dennis and his Mom.
Indiana being out of the picture is big news in Dennis's recruitment. I don't know what Texas is going to do, other than they're still recruiting him, but it does help open things up, whereas I'd pretty much taken it for granted he'd be playing his college basketball up in Bloomington.
Not sure about that. Maybe. He's not a can't miss one and done like others would be.
Texas is in on California superstars Jordan Hamilton and Renardo Sydney. Both of those guys are one and done for sure. Tyreke Evans is a one and done for sure. I don't think Nolan Dennis fits in that category. Doesn't mean he couldn't go after a spectacular freshman year, but that's not how I'd think about him at this juncture.
According to OB Kenny Boynton out of Florida is also considering us (along with Duke, Florida, and Ohio State). He is a 6-2 guard and the #7 overall prospect in 2009.
Kenny Boynton is the real thing, I think he is also taller maybe 6'3.5" but his skill set is amazing. He plays fast but not out of control, excellent passer, sweet shot, and when he wants to defend he is tough to get around. He is really a 1 and gone if he show his skill set in college. I sure hope we are recruiting this kid.
Another kid down in Boyton's area is Brandon Knight class of 2010 and if I had my pick he would be the one I would take. He makes everyone better and can shot , a play maker and he looks faster then Boyton and always in control of the ball. This kid is very , very good.
This is the point I was trying to make on the Sylven Landesberg thread.
The amount of ultra talented players nationwide looking at Texas in the '09 class is unbelievable, and they only have to land 4 of them.
They're certainly recruiting Boynton. Duke is the biggest competition, and it'll be rough, but we'll see how it goes. Hopefully they can get him in for a visit.
Wait, is Brandon Knight looking at Texas? I hadn't heard this guys. With the recent struggles of Jeremy Tyler, looks like Knight has a pretty good chance of solidifying his hold on the number 1 spot in the '10 class...
