From the look of it, we’re going to see a lot of Aaliyah down in the paint at 6’2” with a 6’ 4” W (Latasha).

I like them too. I'm just excited for this team. They're hungry. All of them. And look at Ebo MOVING, shooting and rebounding. She's trying to earn some playing time!! Love it!!!

Well...we have a lot of riches. Hunter and Lattimore are the obvious attention-getters in the first half. It will be fun to watch this group get really good. Wonder what we can do against Stanford. It won't be easy.

And now, the wet blanket. While acknowledging that a 95 point win is impressive, it was obvious that we were a high ranked 6A going against a middle of the road 2A. They were a combination of freshmen and transfers. Looking forward to our next opponent, an NC finalist returning 12 of 13? What are our expectations? I think this will be a wakeup call for Rori, Kyndall, Aaliyah, et al. Jo and Audrey know what's coming.

Take-aways from tonight:
1. Outside of Hunter, outside shooting was bad.
2. Free throw shooting needs improvement
3. Lattimore looks really good, but also really fragile.
4. I expected Ashley to outperform Rori - she didn't. Not sure that it bodes well that our starting point guard is a true freshman. She and Vic will have lots of heart to heart talks.
5. Vic played the freshmen a lot. Is he looking more toward future seasons rather than this season?

I thought we looked good tonight, but Stanford will be a whole different league.

Aliyah Matharu was 3 for 5 from three. Texas needs at least 3 perimeter players to shoot 35% or better from three.

Joanne shot around that last season. She doesn’t seem to have gotten into shooting form yet this season. Audrey shot 40%from three but did not take many. I admit to being a regular fan. Let coach worry about defense. Watching Hunter shoot tonight, I became giddy.

Yeah. Shooting 35% or better with a good amount of attempts is key. If Joanne, Aliyah Matharu, and Kendall can do that it will go along way to helping the team improve this year.

Vic was:
1. constantly up and AGGRESSIVELY coaching his players
2. so aggressively coaching that he was about 5 feet past the line onto the court pointing at a location he wanted his player. Even I said, "Uhhh, coach you gotta get back"
3. not pleased with his team about 80% of the time
4. pulling key players like Rori and in front of the scorer's table, with his arm around her shoulders having a long talk about something while the team played on
5. unhappy about how they were playing, even on points or turnovers caused

Vic Schaefer is the best coach at Texas. Only watched 3 quarters but the way he gets a team to play so hard and buy in is amazing. They made me a fan with the tournament run last year, I'll catch as many as I can this year.

What was the biggest surprise -- good or bad -- on opening day?
Creme: With a number of new faces and coming off a season in which the offense lacked consistency, Texas exploded in a 131-36 win over New Orleans. Obviously, the Longhorns were the favorite against a Privateers team that went 6-15 a year ago, but a 95-point win would have been difficult for anyone to predict.

Texas returned just two starters, and coach Vic Schaefer relied heavily on three freshmen in the season opener, but Texas played like a cohesive unit. The Longhorns applied constant early pressure and forced 38 New Orleans turnovers. They also registered 30 assists and made 13-of-23 3-pointers.

If Texas is going to have a successful season, its freshmen will have to produce, and Tuesday was a positive sign. Aaliyah Moore, the most highly regarded of the trio, scored six points in the first four minutes as the Longhorns jumped to a 17-0 lead. Kyndall Hunter had the most impressive debut with a game-high 27 points that included seven 3-pointers. Latasha Lattimore had 11 points and six rebounds.

Five days from now, Texas takes a prodigious step up in competition when it travels to Stanford on Sunday (3 p.m. ET, ESPN). That will be a more realistic litmus test of where this team is. But if Tuesday is any indication, the Longhorns are ahead of the curve when it comes to chemistry and confidence. That will only help facing the defending champs.

Well, for once I agree with Creme. Sunday will be quite the litmus test. I cannot wait to see how the ladies stack up against the National Champs. We have a lot of players to be excited about.

It Definitely will be a litmus test. We may not win but I expect us to be competitive. Vic will not stand for anything less. If we run into Stanford during the big dance. They should be afraid very afraid because by then every mistake TX made in Sunday's game and how to correct it would have been analyzed a 100 times over. Meeting a Vic team the 1st time you have an opportunity to exploit all their weaknesses. The 2nd time it will not happen. Period! That's what I love about coach. He's constantly growing and evolving the team.

As much as I loved the way our team played and the win, I have to commend the Privateers. They didn't quit, kept encouraging each other and were playing until the end. Good luck to them.

Indeed. I was impressed by their coach and her demeanor and leadership on the sideline.

I saw this too. Seemed similar to the exhibition. Then, during the postgame he was downright complimentary of his team. That surprised me. I remember last year that he spent the first 3 months talking about how his team was just not getting it. Then along about February he turned more positive and we all saw it happen on the court. Looks like we're ahead of last year's trajectory. I wonder if it's helpful that he has student advocates this year who have experienced the positive results of doing things his way. I was pleasantly surprised at the positivity expressed in the post game and am a bit more optimistic that we will be competitive against Stanford. On another note, I have been a strong advocate of Ashley this season. It appears that Vic has chosen Rori as his starter with Ashley as a strong goto/fallback. That being the case, I am now in the Rori camp. Lastly, I have been really impressed with Lattimore and so apparently has Vic. All 4 freshmen are contributing, and the fact that they are doing so this early in the season bodes well for us. Can't wait for Sunday.

It seems like Vic does a good job of not getting lulled by the scoreboard. So, while some coaches don’t really do much when a bad play happens when they’re up 20 or 30, Vic seems to be able to look at play in a vacuum. What’s amazing for playing New Orleans isn’t necessarily getting it done for the Stanford’s of the game. Blown defense against one is blown against the other. Heck, even a play that works out against one wont work out against another.

I like that. Always intense. Always ready.

I, too, have been an Ashley advocate, but her three fouls and four boneheaded turnovers didn't help her case. As a sophomore, I wouldn't expect her to make those kind of decisions. I definitely don't think she'll be starting now.
