I don't think this has to be the ufc thread, and I don't actually have one thing to talk about. Looking forward to the next episode of TUF. I'm glad Dana made these guys fight immediately.
Not UFC, but MMA anyway... did anyone watch the Cung Le vs Frank Shamrock fight? I didn't see it live but caught a video of it. I'm somewhat new to fighting, and haven't watched many matches outside UFC/Pride so I never really got a chance to watch Cung Le. His speed really impressed me. Seemed like he was a step ahead of Frank the whole fight.
And the third round of that fight was quite entertaining from both fighters.
In regards to this tuf season, I also like that they have to fight their way on the show. There are a lot on very inexperienced fighters, moreso that previous seasons, but that could be due to 32 starting. I would think the ufc would use tuf to market some experienced fighters who may not be know that well mainstream (like danzig last season) who can come in and at least fight top tier guys right away.
Cung Le is a badass fighter, who I hope competes more in mma now rather than kickboxing. Maybe after dominating frank shamrock dana will give him a decent offer considering dana effing hates frank. His style would be well received with the mainstream US fans. However he is almost 36.
aleks emelianenko(fedors brother) just fought in M1 as well. big heavyweight striker who would also be appreciated by the US fans, but may have visa problems since hes a convicted felon and supposedly has ties to the russian mob.
my kickboxing coach trained cung lee when he won US kickboxing championship and maybe world as well. The reason he did so well was becasue of his wrestling background..he'd suplex (sp?) the guy in to the mat, which in kickboxing gives him a point. Don't think he is too good in the ground although i hear he has been training hard on that part of his game.
In bigger news it looks like Fedor never signed his contract with M1 and is officially a free agent. He is negotiating with UFC and Elite XC. Let's hope Dana doesn't screw this up a second time and gets him signed to see if he is really the best in the world.
GSP takes out Serra this time in Canada but the one I can't wait for is in May BJ vs. Sherk...alot of bad blood in this one. Can't wait til BJ subs the roided up tool.
I think Nate is a bigger tool than Nick.
Both of them act as though they get no respect in UFC.
Well, don't fail a drug test and piss of the owner and you might get some better fights.
I think Nate will get handled by some upper level guys.
Nick, that kid is just a fighter. Tough as nails with a good chin and KO power.
I think this deserves status as an Other Sport. It is beyond just entertainment. I hope it starts pushing boxing to the side since the sport does not want to fix itself.
I don't know if any of y'all saw Nate's fight, but he was basically flexing and giving the finger (I guess to ufc and not his opponent) while he had the guy trapped.
Fight is in Dallas! Badass
Hope Fedor isn't rusty considering he hasnt fought a ranked heavyweight since Final Conflict 2005. He did absolutely dominate the World Combat Sambo Championships in february though.
Sylvia's UFC contract expires in July anyways so they just let him go. If only they'd let Randy go.
UFC hw is now paper thin. Especially if they don't renew AA to b a big contract. Big Nog should be able to hold the belt easily until they sign Fedor, who will just UD him again.
