Yeah. That game was awesome. I really like this team better without McGrady. Seeing Wafer go off reminded me of the Olajuwon teams. Dream would get his and then a random player would also have a big night. The West wasn't stacked then like it is now so I'm not expecting the same results.
I called it right after Mac went down - that this is where the win streak of 09 begins. I could see it coming for the last two months.
PS - West was good back in Hakeem days too. It's just that some guy named Jordan always got in the way of the West teams. Not saying the Rockets will all of a sudden start winning titles but the West isn't anymore stacked than it was back in the mid-90s.
The West has 9 teams that are capable of a strong playoff run now. Back then there were only 4 or 5.
Jordan never got in the way of the Rockets, unfortunately. I can't stand when people attribute the Rockets titles to his pseudo-retirement. Its not like the Rockets were losing to the Bulls in the Finals every other year. In reality, it was Seattle that the Rockets couldn't beat. And I don't think 94 and 95 would have been any different if it wasn't for Mutombo in 94 and a lucky Lakers team in 95.
I almost puked watching the pre-game TNT telecast of the Cavs-Rockets game. Kenny Smith and Charles Barkely were showing no love what-so-ever for the Rockets and said that this was just a fluke. Disgusting.
