no deal

seems pretty clear that there will be no deal. Boehner tried to force a vote on something that never would have passed, that fails, and then Congress goes on holiday. so for those of us making less than 250k, how much are our taxes going up next year?

I do not see things as optimistic as you Deez. also they have not released new tax tables or advised companies to change the amt of withholdings yet, so if the rates do go up we could end up in a bit of a hole from the start of the year.

I have enjoyed the social security tax break the last 2 years. I has helped increase mytake home pay in an time period that we have generally seen our cost of living go up while at the same time seen smaller pay increases than we had previously. I have also enjoyed this b/c I do not feel I will benefit from SS as much as some and I pay the max every year plus what my wife contributes. That is one tax I am in favor of paying half into a general fund and paying the other half into an IRA type account for only my family use down the road.

I agree that the payroll tax holiday is probably gone. Even some Democrats who believe in the Social Security fairy tale (meaning they pretend that there's a real dedicated Social Security Trust Fund) think it should go away. If that happens, it will impact my tax bill. However, the income tax hike won't happen. If it does, the GOP will lose the House in 2014. They know that, which is ultimately why they're going to fold on this issue.

The democrats believe we need to increase revenues through taxes. The republicans believe we need to cut spending.

Seems to me that everyone should be happy!

Everyone is for Peter paying Paul, except for Peter. Hypocrites if you ask me.

If no deal is done and nobody is happy, seems to be we have taxation without representation. Am I wrong?

The dems control the issue. They will go over the cliff, then come back with tax cuts for their constituency. I would rather go over the cliff as at least there will be spending cuts that the republicans will be able to keep in place after.

The republicans are/were in a good position to get spending cuts if they weren't such buffoons. You get spending cuts for raising the debt ceiling, followed by spending cuts for a 3% tax increase on the rich, followed by more spending cuts for raising the debt ceiling again in march. Yeah, you took a hit on the tax increases for the rich but you get three rounds of spending cuts to bring back to your base.

good point. but I doubt they see it that way. They are doing their best to keep the tea party in their corner otherwise they are obsolete at this point.

So cutting taxes are good? Holy crap Roger35 - you are for cutting taxes?

Since I am sure you put me in that low IQ realm too (despite my degree from UT and Masters Degree), please do tell. While you are at it, please tell me how most of the 1% got there despite having such low IQ's?

Stashing money in the Cayman's is simply a democratic talking point. Does it happen? yes. Is it nearly as rampant as democrats say, no. Also, the people Obama targets are not generally people who have inherited their wealth. Most are entrepreneurs that make more than $250k on paper, but rarely actually take it home. It stays in the company to be re-invested, cover late accounts receivable and act as a reserve called days cash on hand due to uncertainty of the economic policies of the government.

If cutting taxes is a good thing for the economy in a downturn, it is better that everyone get those cuts.

The general belief that we are overtaxed because the government overspends is something I believe. Do you believe the government underspends?

Roger35 lecturing anyone on the Obama Eco 101 How to scape by when buying cooking utensils is laughable. Look I know you don't have any money, you never have any money. The difference between you and me is simple. I know why you never have any money and you don't.

You think you have a shortage of government money problem, I know your problem, YOU have a spending problem. Piss on your utensils, do I buy USA or from China, IT DOES NOT ******* MATTER. Don't buy them at all if it's using up all your money. But you did, and you'll never get that money back. But in your defense, you were going to piss it off anyway.

The bigger problem is Obama is just as money wise and you and your friends who elected the dolt. He will never do anything good for the country, but I promise you this, it will hurt you way more than it does me. Because, because, I will never spend my last dime on a cooking utensil.

Since we agree it overspends, why is it a good idea to tax people more in order to enable their spending and graft?

Whether it is for the wars you feel are idiotic or for bridges to nowhere, at some point it has to stop. I am glad to hear you grew up wealthy and that your parent's built successful medical practices. While they probably did it for multiple reasons including a passion for caring, they probably also worked long hours and took after hours call so they could build up a good life for you and your siblings if you have them.

I do the same for my family and I totally resent the government and the liberal democrats demonizing me for it and telling me I do not pay my fair share. Hopefully, my family will have generational wealth after I am done - but F anyone who feels they need to take it from me or take more from me because others have failed to work hard or save their money.
