Ninfa's in Houston worth it?

My wife and I are going to be in Houston for the Police concert and I am in the mood for some fajitas and pitchers of Margaritas. We are are staying at the Hilton Plaza of the Americas and were wondering about recommendations for this type of fare not toofar from where we will be staying. I had heard of Ninfa's being the birthplace of the fajita and thought about stopping by. Is it really good, or an over-priced tourist trap? What other places might we try?

The original Ninfas on Navigation is not that far away and is definitely not what I would call a tourist trap. The food is very good, but not exceptional. You can do better in Houston. In fact, Irma's near Minute Maid Park is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston, but it is only open for breakfast and lunch. Lupe Tortilla is a great suggestion.

Lupe Tortilla is located off Kirby and 59. Not Far from downtown and the Toyota Center. Ninfas is good food but much better is available.

I'll chime in that the original ninfa's (the one on navigation) is good, but they've been passed up. if you want beef fajitas go to lupe tortilla. best chicken fajitas and great margaritas hit up el tiempo.

the ninfa's is not a tourist trap, in fact it'll be less crowded than lupe tortilla and el tiempo.

Lupe is the call if you want the best fajitas, however it's outside of downtown. Is the El Tiempo still in business downtown or did it close? That would be a vable option.

what the others said.

ninfas on navigation is good, but the other two places mentioned are fantastic.

The Ninfas on Navigation has been going downhill for a while now. Apparently the family sold the restaurant to another guy and he has started changing the food. I go back about once a month hoping they've learned their lesson and changed the food back to the way it used to be about six months ago. One of the employees there told me that they have steadily lost customers.

I'm probably going to be in the minority but I've never really cared for El Tiempo. There is one on Washintong that is within five minutes of downtown if you decide to go there.

You can also go to Lupe Tortilla at 59 & Kirby. The beek fajitas are awesome but their salsa sucks. I would probably go to Lupe Tortilla because Ninfas is hit or miss right now. Besides who really belives that Mama Ninfa was the first person to put sliced beef inside a tortilla?

I went to the orig. ninfas the other day and i thought it was awesome... i got the tacos al carbon one chicken and one beef.

I'm in the minority, but I think Ninfa's on Navigation is better than El Tiempo. For fajitas though, its Lupe Tortilla.

I don't get the Lupe band wagon.

Maybe I need to give it a second try, but bad salsa, makes it unbearable for me.

Ohh, I also like the original Ninfa's, queso flamado. mmmmm

Lupe is the best way to go for fajitas. If you want to just get shithammered on margarita's, though, go to Molina's around 59 and Buffalo Speedway. Those things are the devil in a glass.

just as another option, i would suggest "100% Taquito" off westpark out by the galleria.

it's like what would happen if you had a mobile taquito stand that was a real restaurant. the pork and pineapple tacos are amazing.

100 % Taquito is pretty good, try to swing by for a quick lunch.

I also agree with the Pappasito's fajita's, excellent.

I really dig the original Ninfa's. I like Lupe's, but I don't get the love affair with the place, although I think their salsa is fine. I think their marg's suck.

I can't believe people still eat at Pappasito's. that place is crappy.

Count me amongst the "don't get it" Lupe crowd. Their salsa and sides all suck. Their beef fajitas taste like lime juice. Papasitos fajitas are probably better, but IMO El Tiempos are the best. MEsquite grilled and badass every time. Salsa, and all other sides are awesome and those grilled serrano peppers that come with the fajitas are allsome. Be careful with their margaritas.
