You're wrong in that UT did show an interest in Montana and asked him to come down to a couple of camps if he wanted to.
You're right in that there was never anything particularly serious from either side. IIRC, the invitation that the UT staff sent out came after McCoy and Wood had already committed.
From UT's side, it didn't cost them anything to bring in a name recruit; from Montana's side, it didn't cost them anything to have a school like UT express interest.
But for ESPN to suggest this was some titanic struggle a la Ryan Perriloux or Tommie Harris or Roy Miller is utterly disingenuous.
I agree with Bill McNeal. We already had two qbs committed but he was interested in coming here for a visit and it was mutually beneficial because he got to visit our campus and see Austin and we got some good PR work on having him come here for the visit but neither side was really interested because of our QB situation. What ESPN implies is not accurate at all though.
