Nicest golf course in Dallas?

mods - this is here because it's really more about networking than it is about golf ...

Might have an opportunity to take some bigwigs to the golf course later this month. Anyone have suggestions for a place in Dallas that is either public, or will take a "special request" tee time (if private), for a foursome? Doesn't matter what part of the city, but Dallas is preferred over Ft Worth.

Thanks.

I havent played too many but I have played the Tour 18 in flower mound and it was really nice. They have the Amen corner from the Masters which is really neat and will impress any bigwig

Cowboys golf club next to Lake Grapevine. yes, it's owned by Jerry. It consistently wins best public course in Dallas and has the green fees to match. But you can't go wrong there.

Texas Star in Euless and Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine are open to the public and fantastic.

You also might check TPC at Craig Ranch in McKinney. It is phenomenal. It's private, but I think they'll let people on if they have a "special request."

If you are out to impress the bigwigs, you can not go wrong with Cowboys. Yes it is pricey but it includes everything but alcohol. That means get there it breakfast or lunch, play golf, then eat lunch or dinner. You must get your moneys worth. There are plenty of other nice courses in Dallas it really all depends on what part of the city you want to play in or coming from. To the south is Tangle Ridge, a bit of the hill country in Dallas. A nice track to play of you ever get the chance. If you have the chance to drive an hour, Twin Lakes in Canton TX. A great course and well worth the drive.

El Dorado is pretty nice. You can make special requests at either Oakridge or Firewheel in Garland if you want something private.

Cowboys. Hands down for trying to impress. There are a TON of great "high end daily fee" courses that have been built the past ten years and some of these are listed above. But, Cowboys is the top of the list. It's centrally located, close to the airport, and in brilliant shape.

Also, many of the private clubs will host private events on the one day a week they are "closed". However, this is usually monday and you have to have a minimum number of players--usually 40 or so.

cowboys is likely your best choice. if your budget is very high AND you can find a member of dallas national to sponsor you, well, that is the BEST course in dallas hands down. i can give you the details on the cost if you are interested.

Another vote for the Cowboys golf course. I played there 5 years ago, and Babe Laufenberg was in the 4-some behind us. If I had the chance to talk to him, I would've berated him for his crappy performance in the final game of the 1990 season (Aikman was hurt) against the Falcons that would've put us into the playoffs with a win.

Cowboys - i played there a few years ago and I was really impressed. From what I remember, one thing that was unusual was that there are some relatively substantial elevation changes...

Cowboys or Texas Star. Great tracks.

LB Houston is really not that bad. Its in really great shape right now. Good track to get away on a weekday afternoon.

Dallas Athletic Club if you can find a member, or contact the pro there and they sometimes sponsor guests. That's how I've played there the two times Ive been. That pro is longer there so I haven't been in a couple of years.

One other plus about DAC is that the SMU golf team plays and practices there so there's always some golf eye candy around.

Stonebridge Country Club in McKinney. Although with the rain and not extreme heat, the rough may ruin your day if you can't keep it in play. The rough here gets so thick that finding a ball can be a nightmare. But it really is a beautiful course and I love playing it. It's a Pete Dye.

I am SO glad to hear the love for Cowboys Golf Course...I am organizing a tourney there for our PAC next month and I was hoping that the players will be happy. Good news!
