Niagara Falls/Toronto

I am planning a trip for a 1 year anniversary to Niagara Falls, with the intention to drive up to Toronto because we've heard its a cool city.

Anybody got any suggestions on what to do other than see the falls?

Recommend you consider flying in an dout of Toronto. Less hassle, several nonstops each day. Easy drive down QEW to Buffalo. The 3 hour nonstop is much better than the 2-3 plane, all day trip on Southwest or through NYC or Newark.

Toronto is a very clean, nice city full of friendly people. As a firend of mine from Mexico City likes to say, "Canada, it's the United States, just cleaner."

I freakin' LOVE Toronto. I almost took a job there in the mid-80s, but at the time the Canadian dollar was taking a pounding. That, plus the winter weather was just too much for me to pull the trigger.

Downtown Toronto is really cool and reminds me a lot of downtown Chicago, except cleaner.

I used to fly into both Toronto and even into Buffalo, depending on where I was working at the time. I second staying on the Canadian side, although you have to drive across to Buffalo to get some wings.

As of right now, we are planning on flying into Buffalo because we don't have passports to fly into Toronto. We'll be staying on the Canada side of the falls.

How long does it take to get a passport at this point?

What specifically is there to do in Toronto that is "can't miss"

In addition to the things posted above, the Danforth area is also pretty cool. It is known as Greek Town. Eclectic with small Greek and Mediterranean style restaurants and shops and a pretty cool area to walk around. Really close to the water which is also nice to walk along.

Are you applying for a passport or renewing? Either way, I read processing time is about 4 weeks. You can pay an additional fee to expedite (2 weeks).

I've only been to Toronto once and it was for a convention so I didn't see as much of the city as I would have liked. The CN Tower was really cool, especially walking over the plexiglass floor.

You may consider a drive to Niagara on the Lake. It's very charming, pretty and romantic. There is an historic boutique hotel, The Prince of Wales that serves afternoon tea. There are also wineries in the vicinity.

My wife and I went into the office in Houston and got our passports the same day. You have to do 2 things:

1) Prove to them that you need them right then and there....i.e. we showed our travel itinerary

2) Pay the increased fee...i believe it was about $150
