Niagara Falls High-Wire Walk

Baring any unforeseen problems, Nik Wallenda starts the walk a little after 9:00 CST on ABC. First time anyone has attempted to cross directly over the falls. Pretty crazy.

The drama is certainly dampened by the steel safety harness he's wearing. I read something the other day that he has never used a safety harness and wasn't going to use one for this walk, but maybe the US, or Canadian authorities made him. Still pretty impressive.

For those of you that missed it ...

To the untrained eye that looks like a shark. But to those in the know, it is the rare but lethal Niagara Mamba.

I saw this guy on Real Sports a couple of months back and Bryant Gumbel commented about how Wallenda's appearance belies his ability and accomplishments. He certainly doesn't look like an athlete, but more like someone that would be sitting on the couch at home watching this on TV. I guess good balance and focusness comes in all shapes.

NPR did a great interview with the mayor of Niagra Falls, He related that the hgih wire acts must not be to scary for the Wallenda Family. High wire walker look down on breathless audiences and see their own kids playing hand-held video games.
