NFL needs new replay rules for fumbles

San Diego just got royally screwed. That should be their ball if the rules made any sense, since by the time the whistle blew they were already assured of the recovery.

Wow.

The refs took a TD from SD earlier and then took away a turnover that woulda denied Denver a TD late.

That's brutal.

Serious question, why are officials so incompetent? If we can all tell FROM THE TV ANGLE what happened why can't they tell from 15 yards away?

It doesn't matter whether it's a fumble, a touchdown or whatever, if the whistle blows the play is dead. Period.

Hook'em!!!

I never heard this "whistle". When the "whistle" blew, according to the announcers, San Diego was about 0.5 seconds from jumping on the ball, with no Broncos around.

The reply officials blew this call. Whistle or not, it was recovered by SD. Terrible call.

I'm not a fan of either team but it would have been better on the last play if the ref had held off blowing the whistle and let the play go. Then review it to see if it was incomplete and call it that. SD got the shaft this time on two fumbles which is a big difference in a one point game.

Ed Hochuli should get fined and suspended, but I'm sure the NFL will do absolutely nothing as usual. He singlehandedly gave that game to the Broncos.

They need to change the rules to allow them to overturn plays that are whistled dead prematurely in certain instances. Let the refs use judgment - in this case, clearly the defender was going to recover the ball regardless of the whistle, so f-ing get it right after reviewing replay and let the game be decided by the players, not the zebras.

Rarely can you say that a ******** blown call singlehandedly reversed the rightful outcome of a game like this. I hope Turner goes absolutely apeshit if this game is the difference in playoff seeding or, worse, making the playoffs at all.

And made all the worse by the bs "interception" earlier. This is a travesty. I can't see straight I'm so pissed right now.

What I want to know is how can a ball that obviously went backwards be mistaken for an incomplete pass. Its either a fumble or a backwards pass, both result in a live ball.

Well just remeber you have the luxury of watching and rewatching this. The officals have about a tenth of a second to make there descions..
