Next year should be great...

Ruffin, Cole, and Workman are only sophmores and Jungmann is only a freshman. They should all be back and that means that we will have one of the best, if not THE best pitching rotation in the nation. Most of our hitters look like they should be back (Rupp, Keyes etc...) as well unless a few decide to go pro.

After winning it all in 2002, we went two years with a disappointing finish before winning it again in 2005. These guys saw a championship slip through their grasp this year, and I look for next year to be back in the same position and win it!

I'd just been thinking the same thing. In pitching we lose Wood and nada mas, correct? We lose what in our everyday players, maybe Torres? In any case in 2004 we lost in the CWS finals to CS-Fullerton, and then came back in 2005 to win it all. I can easily see the same scenario if we do not lose much from our batsmen.

My main wishes for next year are lefties. We need left handed pitching and we could use another bat or 2 from that side of the plate. We never really had an answer for all of LSU’s left handed hitters. I see next year shaking out like this:

C Rupp
1B Belt (if he does sign maybe Moldenhauer or Cain or Tant)
2B Etier (remember what he did earlier in the year when people were wanting him to play short)
SS Loy
3B Ke Lusson (or didn’t Tant come in as a 3B??)
RF Keyes
CF Rowe
LF Tant (Maybe Williams if he doesn’t sign or Walla or does anybody know about Mickan?)
DH Moldenhauer

Fri SP Ruffin
Sat SP Jungman
Sun SP Green
Tue SP Dicharry/Workman

Bullpen Thomas, McKirahan, Stafford, ??

Closer Workman/Dicharry (I really want Workman to take this job with his fastball and breaking ball)

I see LF, and left handed pitching being the largest hole. I did just look and Stafford and McKirahan are both lefties so they could be the answer. I think Boening is coming back also, but who knows what you will get from him. If we could find a closer out of the new guys coming in I wouldn’t mind Workman going back to the Sunday starter if he can get control of his stuff and Green going to the Tue spot.

Plus I presume we will have a few decent incoming freshmen as well right?

Man sending Ruffin, Green, and Jungmann out every weekend again next year is going to be awesome.

Well if Workman has control issues, then closer is not the best place for him. Remember, you need set up men later in the season when it gets brutally hot and starters run out of gas. I'd like him as a spot starter/long relief. Finding a new closer will be the top priority next year, IMO. I wouldn't mind some speed in the OF either.

Workman might have had control issues, but in Omaha, he was the only Longhorn out of the pen who did throw strikes. I think his control was fine when it counted most.

This will be a very good team with the best staff in the country and a great shot to take that one extra step.

Let's be cautious here.

aggy was pre-season picked to take the conference in part because they were returning 8 on their pitching staff who accounted for 85% of their wins the year before.

It'ls like any prospectus - past performance is no guarantee of future results.

I'm really looking forward to next year, but let's not let ourselves get carried away - yet.

Its true, there are no guarantees.... but if these guys continue to do what they are suppose to, Id like to think they will be as good, or better next year. Ill let that get me through the rest of summer before football starts up!

How did the recruits do this past season?

Colton Cain – LHP/1B – Waxahachie, Texas (Waxahachie HS)
Hoby Milner – LHP – Crowley, Texas (Paschal HS)
Keifer Nuncio – RHP – Katy, Texas (Katy HS)
Josh Urban – RHP – Dripping Springs, Texas (Dripping Springs HS)
Cohl Walla – RHP/OF – Austin, Texas (Lake Travis HS)
Jonathan Walsh – C – Coppell, Texas (Coppell HS)
Jordan Weymouth – IF – Paradise Valley, Ariz. (Chaparral HS)
Jacob Cowan - RHP - San Jacinto CC (soph year); UVA (frosh)

And aggy's team doesn't have Augie Garrido in their dugout.

The pitching staff will be almost exactly the same as this year. Unless there are injuries we don't know about that linger through summer and fall, I doubt Ruffin, Jungmann, and Green are suddenly going to turn to crap. The bullpen guys have to be more reliable.

There was plenty of speed on the bench this year, so if that's what Augie is looking for a in a left fielder, we shouldn't have any problems, at least defensively. Offensively may be another issue because, but we've been there before. Third base is probably the position that concerns me most. I do NOT want to have to move Brandon Loy back there, so Tant Shepherd needs to step up.
