I'm hosting a friend from out of state next weekend (16-17). Is there anything going on that weekend? What would you recommend for things to do during the day?

I am not being a smartass when I suggest to read the Austin Chronicle. They go day by day on things to do in the Arts and other things.
Check what Horns games or activities are going on. Happy Hours in cool spots around town. These restaurants/bars will likely have a website to check out.

The Austin Marathon is Sunday.
So, scrape yourself out of bed, find a good place to watch for a half hour or so, holler "Go MirrOlure" when you see a good looking dude in a white Asics tank with orange trim, and then go to breakfast.
Seriously, the course will be full of live bands, etc., and the weather is supposed to be excellent. So it will be a good chance to take in a little of the spectacle.
And if either of you is in to running, there is a huge Expo at the Palmer Events Center, free admission. Not a bad place to kill a half hour or so before lunch on Saturday.

It's sold out but you can get tix on craigslist I am sure. I have no idea what your musical tastes are, but if they are anywhere near average you will enjoy this show.
