Next three games

Whatever our struggles thus far, or the reasons for them, I think it is reasonable for all of us to expect this team to get some wins on the board in our upcoming contests. We play three games before facing the Bears, and two of those contests are at home. Two of the opponents, TCU and KSU, were picked to finish 9th and 10th in the Big 12 preseason poll. And both are teams I fully expected us to sweep this year. K-State pulled off a stunner last night when they upset #12 OSU. This is a squad that was projected so low primarily because they only have two players on the team 6' or over, both 6'1, and neither of whom is even a part of the current rotation. With two more injuries they are now down to a 7-player roation and yet they got the job done. Nonetheless this is a game we should win, and the same certainly goes for TCU. The game some might figure to be the toughest of these next three, ISU, comes up last and it is at home. All of our top players will be available and playing. And whatever the outcome of the Baylor matchup four games from now, we need to enter that contest with some momentum, and wins under our belt. Moreover I think these next three games will tell us a lot about where this team really is at. If we win them, and play well against Baylor, I think it will be a good sign for the program. And hopefully something we can build on for the rest of the season. If the slide continues, in particular given the opponents, that's another story. At any rate that's how I see things, and how much importance I am placing on our next three games.

Certainly hoping, at this point, for a couple of wins to show the team that they are able to successfully apply what they are learning. I have to agree with overseas that this next two games are probably our best chances to pull off wins until the next time we play them. I expected that we would beat ISU at home, given projected improvement before they came to Austin. Right now, I want to see whether the players continue to improve and don't defer to Nneka and Chassidy as the default shooters. They need to complement those two, not let them do all the lifting.

I went to practice today to check out the demeanor of the team after the past couple of weeks. I am proud of this team. The energy and teamwork was high. Everyone was there and working at a high level and doing well.

The season is a grind. I think they are learning that old adage about not letting the highs get too high or the lows get too low. Bring your lunch pail and work hard each day.

Go horns!

Are practices open to the public? How did KA run the practice? Were there positive strokes or was it mainly criticism. The reason that I ask is that I saw a very early practice and there wasn't much positive going on from KA, but I don't want to make a judgement from just one very early practice.

They are open. You can get on email list for the team and get the practice schedule. Call the women's bball team office.

Plenty of positive and teaching today.
