Next season--from the Tech board

Tech poster DblT81 has some great stuff on what teams lost, who they have coming back, and incoming freshmen. Good discussion on the Tech board about next season.

Speaking of Tech – heard a rumor which I have not confirmed – November 17th at the AT&T Center in San Antonio – Texas vs UConn and Texas Tech vs Tennessee – that would be a Tuesday night which seems strange, but that was the story - again, not confirmed but worth watching for.

if the post from the tech fan about Griner not being any good is indicative of their athletic departments, it's no surprise their WBB program has gone completely in the tank

I think a lot of thoughts of Griner not being as effective in college as she was in high school is based on the thought that Griner will be playing against players almost as tall as she and heavier and stronger. Griner is rather slender judging from her pictures. Maybe she can be pushed away from her spot on the blocks but she played against some top posts in the summer and did well. I think the best way to play will be the way the team that beat hers in the championship game did. Make it very difficult to get the ball in to her, come with a quick double and hope that she has trouble finding the open player.

Griner will be facing 6-3 to 6-6 players in the Big 12 in every game. Some teams, like Texas, will be able to throw two 6-4 players at her. It will be tougher but I expect she will still be a force inside.

I think it will be interesting to watch. She is going to present a challenge that most coaches have never had to face, which is if you throw the ball high enough she will be the only one able to go get it. And from what I have seen she can catch and shoot in one motion. She better practice her free throws because she is going to be on the line a lot.

I think you will have to bump her well before she gets set to prevent her from getting to her spot. But she is going to outrun 99% the players who will be defending her down low, so it may be hard to prevent her from getting to where she wants to be on the floor.
