If Self is gone who do they go after?

I would think Barnes would be their target and I would think this is the job he would take if offered. The facilities as well as the support from the adminstration without any of the unrealistic goals.

For our sake I hope Self stays at KU.

Hmm, I am going to have to go with no.

"The facilities as well as the support from the adminstration without any of the unrealistic goals" is a very, very confusing sentence. Actually, it's more of a fragment.

Are you saying that Texas has better facilities and lacks unrealistic goals? Or are you saying that Kansas has better facilities and lacks unrealistic goals?

Here's how most people would see it:

1. Texas has better facilities than Kansas.
2. Texas has more realistic goals than Kansas, when it comes to basketball.

There might be plenty of other reasons to choose Kansas over Texas, but the ones you cited actually point the other direction.

This gets brought up every year around this time. we all knew he turned bown NC state a few years ago. HE IS NOT GOING ANY PLACE!!!

He will be here as long as Deloss is. This is a premier job, with world class facilities, Austin, he can get any team in the country to come here in for a single game or a home and home, it is quickly becoming a first stop for all NBA scouts, he doesnt recruit thugs and the program is swimming in a sea of cash. Salary will never be an issue for a UT coach.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. No head coach from the University of Texas has ever left for a job at another school.

I'll admit I was worried about the UK, IU and NC State positions, but the fact that Barnes didn't leave for those opportunities increases my confidence that he's not going anywhere.

For the record, I don't think Self is leaving KU.

Mick Haley resigned as Texas' volleyball coach and ended up at USC, but he had a stop inbetween with the US Olympic squad.

Richard Quick left Texas to coach women's swimming for Stanford.

I'm not sure that fan support is a such a huge plus. Sure we don't have Midnight Madness but the upside to not being a true basketball school is that 95% of the school and alumni base aren't second guessing your every move and setting upThe Link Great location and facilities lead to great recruits. Less pressure + great recruits = success. Maybe my equation is too simplified but there's some truth to it.

With our football program. If we don't at least make it to a BCS game, we've had a miserable year (and I do happen to be one of those fans who believes that). Compare that to my feelings about the basketball team making the Elite 8. I was a little sad that we didn't make it to the Final Four but I am still happy as hell that we had such a fantastic season. Yes, I expect UT basketball to have a couple more trips to the Final 4 AND a national championship but Barnes doesn't have to worry about his job year in and year out just because he hasn't been to the Final Four in a couple years.

Well, I agree BArnes isn't going anywhere. I'm less sure about Self:

1. he gets to go "home"
2. he makes enough money that not only is he taken care of for life, but so are his children and grandchildren.

Frankly, to me that's hard to pass up. Though I know KU fans would accuse him of "selling out", how is going back to your home selling out? Wouldn't selling out be leaving your alma mater for a high-paying job elsewhere?
