that the climate may be changing primarily due to natural forces. a well-known skeptic site reports it here, but the article (according to the site) has been published in Climate Dynamics (one of the most respected journals dealing with climate change).

interesting read from the skeptic site

here is a link to the abstract for the actual article:

actual article abstract here

i am curious to know what people think of this.....

The article doesn't argue that global warming is natural rather than anthropogenic. Rather it argues that the direct cause of warming has more to do with increases in ocean temperatures than with simple green-house effect.

johnny, it is an interesting article abstract that suggests a very interesting conclusion. are you wishing i was more dogmatic? i have no problem saying that i am not sure what the article says beyond the abstract, but i suspect that my initial thoughts are close to the reality. regardless it is interesting enough to post and see where it goes.

do you disagree? ok......

Their argument is that a major component of climate change is ocean mediated. Energy absorbed by the Earth heats the oceans which then releases this energy over time, with an effect on climate. In other words water acts as a heat sink.
No where do they argue that greenhouse gases have no effect on the earth as a system.

Let's try to clear up one persistent misconception - no geophysicist (the vast majority of whom accept the evidence for anthropogenic global warming) believes that greenhouse gas pollution is the only or even the main contributor to temperature dynamics on our planet. Rather they believe that human activities are contributing to a move away from equilibrium. In other words, greenhouse gas pollution isn't the only factor in climate determination but it is a significant contributor to the changes we're seeing in our climate. It is the part we can do something about.

To bad this isn't on WM. It might possibly grow to the size of the gay marriage thread. Allsome. BCS, GW and gay rights = Hot Topics on Hornfans.

I don't know anything about global warming.....but I do know that at 4pm CT on 12/10/2008 its snowing in The Woodlands.

MOP's 600 'scientists' sounds a lot like the signatories of the Discovery Institute 'Dissent from Darwin.'

For every William Behe there will be a an equally idiotic name on the Inhofe list.

GT, that's the best you could do? "they sound a lot like" and then show something else that you don't agree with? what is wrong with THIS list? not some other list that you happen to think is silly. why is this list of scientists (many of whom are supposedly former IPCC scientists) somehow deficient.

for the record, it very well may be deficient, have not looked into it at all! i just saw it and posted it. i will do my own research later. i am about to walk out the door to a men's meeting so i don't have time....
