New stadium = better home advantage??

Wondering if anyone else thinks that the new North endzone will give us an even better home field advantage? For years now I have seen the debate on hornfans as to whether the students at Texas really get into games enough to give us a home field advantage at DKR. Just wondering if anyone will change their mind now that we are near 100,000 in capacity?

Personally I think the crowd is good but somewhat fickle. During the OSU and Tech comeback games in '03 and '04 I thought the crowd was awesome and never gave up for a second. But during the Arky loss I thought the crowd sucked. Maybe it was because it was hot as **** that game but I thought the crowd sucked after the 3rd and a mile was converted.

I'm hoping that since the new north end is closer to the field that the fans will feel more like they are part of the action. However, we aren't even close to 100,000 in capacity yet. I think we're just over 90,000 with the new addition. Now, long range plans call for the enclosure of the south endzone which would bring capacity to something like 112,000.

The NEZ was a hell of a lot louder last year even without the 2nd deck. Hopefully it's unbearable with it.

The official stadium capacity wis listed at 94k, but actual crowds on gameday will be close to 100,000.

The actual "pairs of eyes" watching the game will be around 93,000. I guess you have to subtract the empty west side seats (OLD PEOPLE DISS!).

We'll go ahead and announce attendance at or near 98,000, because of the ticket takers and such. Probably about 100,000 for the A&M game.

-The new seats are closer to the field.

-Having upper decks on 3 sides and bleachers/Godzillatron on the 4th side of the field will help to trap the sound.

-The capacity has increased from about 85,000 to about 97,000.

-Fans & players will be excited about the new stadium.

-The LHB will be in the south end zone, making them easier to hear, causing the fans to get more into the game.

-The visiting fans & band will be moved to the southeast corner of the stadium where they won't be heard as well, and (if I remember correctly) the visiting sections will be split up.

All of these things should lead to an increased home-field advantage at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Time of day has a lot to do with crowd noise. If it's a 6-7 p.m. kickoff, fans have had all day to drink beer, so they're drunk & crazy. Also it's cooler.

Morning starts are a bummer, because most people (esp. students) are still hung over, and it's too dang hot.

I'm hoping our MU game is a 7 p.m. kickoff. If both teams are undefeated, that should be really loud. The extra fans, plus being closer to the field at the north end should be an extra boost to our home-field advantage.

I was at the spring game - there is NO WHERE for the noise to go except off of the NEZ - even the PA and National Anthem were LOUD - with about 20k there....I suspect for Arky it will be the loudest DKR has ever been - and I can't wait for Thanksgiving night

until we hump it in the stands, we'll never be an intimidating crowd.

Having a fully enclosed endzone has its perks. The crowd noise is definitely amplified, but it has it's downsides also. Our new endzone has cut off any and all breeze from that direction. It's gonna be freakin' hot come September!

I was under the impression that our capacity would be between 97k-98k after the N end zone construction is complete this summer.

What was it like for spring practice? Does anyone have any pics they are willing to share? I don't have the privilege of living in Austin anymore, but I drove by about a month ago and it looked pretty good.
