new restaurant where Gilligan's used to be.

"Upscale Southern" type of menu. Went last night and had the coffee pork tenderloin, wife had the filet. Absolutely excellent. Price ranges from $16-$22 for entrees. Think Z Tejas type of quality, but a more creative and distinct menu.

Great date place with terrific service

They could have picked a better name for a restaurant in Austin, Texas

i don't like the idea of coffee flavored anything, unless it's icecream, some chocolate combo, or the drink itself. z tejas is also dog food. that place wouldn't survive a month in houston.

gonna be in esse this weekend? you can try your best to come w/in 9 shots of me, if you wish. unless you want to cut your losses now and concede being in 3rd among the FB, unpainted, TH trifecta

unpainted: did you post a similar review on Austin Citysearch under the name longhorn? Thanks for the heads up. I will be sure to check it out.

I think it was opened by one of the old managers of Ranch 616.....
I have heard mixed reviews. I don't think I am going to go.

I had lunch there a few days ago and it was pretty good.

I'm going to try Roaring Fork in another month or so.

Roaring Fork is next on the list, but ate at Crimson again today. This was the second time I've been for lunch. Excellent both times.

They have a $5.95 lunch special that changes everyday. Had a spicy meatball and pasta combo today. Had the red beans and rice last time. Go check it out for lunch if you work downtown.

Their turkey and sausage gumbo is the best gumbo I have had in Austin -- well, okay, it's neck and neck with Castle Hill's duck gumbo.

I thought "turkey gumbo -- what kind of weenie ******** is that?" I was surprised. A dark, smoky roux. A cup was bigger than bowls in most places. Plenty of meat. They bring you a dish of file without even asking for it. It's good ****.

Next time I go, I am just getting a bowl of gumbo and maybe splitting a light appetizer with someone else. I can't comment on the rest of their menu, but they're worth the trip for gumbo alone.

And trust me -- I am a VERY unforgiving judge when it comes to gumbo.

Gilligan's simply ran its course. Owner decided not to renew lease. Business had been down for a while. Good place though.

He also owns the Brick Ovens and Siena
