New Orleans

I need some help with New Orleans. I'm heading there with a big group soon and no one has been before....or can remember their trip.

So where would be a good place to stay that is in a safe area, but in a good location in regards to night life? Price doesn't really matter, so something nice would be great.

Also, we need some good eating spots.

Any suggestions or such would be great since I'm pretty clueless right now where to go or what to do.

Thanks in advance

I like the Bourbon Orleans right behind the cathedral.

It sits between Royale and Bourbon streets. Try to get one of the two story suites on the first floor next to the small bar.

Great location.

As for restaurants, there's tons of them, but I always recommend the Court of Two Sisters. I always stop there and it's always a blast.

Oh, hell...I'll just go with you! N'awlins is one of my three favorite places in the USA.

As far as hotels, you'll want to stay downtown in the quarter or uptown along St. Charles. As far as eats, where to start?

Galatoire's, Mother's, Domilise's (po-boys), Camellia Grill, and Betsy's Pancake House are the ones I would say are must hit. Feel free to PM me for more specific suggestions if you need them. When're you going, season can be a big deal.

I stayed at the Sheraton in February for a bachelor party. It was real nice and not that expensive.

You are a block from bourban street.

I must admit, I wanted to go somewhere besides NO, but since mainly the same group is going to Ireland for a bachelorette party, we wanted to go somewhere close and cheaper than flying all over the US. But thanks to your help, I'm actually pretty excited now.

Macehorn, if you get bored, we still need a tour guide since I'm scared we will not find out way back to our hotel.

Any of these places have good shrimp and grits?

Thanks again.

If you want shrimp, go to Mr. B's and get the Barbequed Shrimp. Start off with a bowl of Gumbo Ya Ya.

A bunch of my dinner companions had the shrimp and grits at NOLA a few weeks ago. They were unanimous in their praise.

I stayed at the W for 2 months last year, it's right between Harrah's and Mother's. what else do you want? Also, the Lowe's across the street (on Poydras) is nice as well.
