New Orleans Trip

Well I am getting lucky next week, could be literal too.

My boss is sending me to New Orleans (this is my first time ever) on business to work with a bunch of women.

I am getting in on Wednesday night and don't fly back until Saturday (maybe even Sunday if I so choose).

I am a noobie here, never been, not sure what to do in these days. Obviously I will be working for a lot of the time but will want to go out on other nights.

I guess Harrah's will be my spot. I like to gamble and play a little cards....Any tips for my trip?
I will update when I know where we are staying.

Eat at Port of Call, they serve hamburgers with loaded baked potatoes, awesome.

Serio's for Muffalatta.

For roast beef poorboys: Mothers, Parkway.

For seafood poorboys; Johnny's

For cajun food, any restaurant the Brennan's own.

I had an early flight from Austin to Nola and didnt get to breakfast until after we had checked in, I asked the concierge if he had a local recomendation and he gave me this.

cafe fleur de lis

Thier signature omelete was the Fleur de Lis omelette, crawfiish tails, pepper jack cheese, bell peppers,
onions, and topped with a cajun crawfish Sauce.

Damn, it was good.

Here are some more reviews of the place. The Link

Acme Oyster House was excellent and we even went out to Metarie and ate at Ruths Chris, which is just as good as the one in Austin.

Have a great time, lots of good food and drink in that town.

Play 3-card poker at Harrah's. My buddy sat down there and won $7k..........and then spent $5k of it at Larry Flynt's Barely Legal (which is also very awesome).

As for bars, the Cat's Meow is really cool with plenty of eye candy walking around.

note that most of the girls who sell shots at bars, cocktail waitress, etc in the quarter are hookers. if they ask you to wait for them to get off work and go get breakfast, they are 'working".

* these girls are very attractive.

NO is a good time. No doubt.

That said, DO NOT venture outside of the Quarter at night if you are by yourself. I have had three friends jumped in the last year in a half and all were a matter of blocks from Bourbon St. Also, if you are hitting up Harrahs watch your surroundings when walking out of there.......people are watching you play and when you win, they know you are walking out of there with $$$ in your wallet.

Fun town but it is still very rough in a lot of regards.

A little touristy, but...

Acme Oyster House for dinner. Very casual, loud, busy, laid back beer and cajun food joint. Good ettouffe (sp?) There's usually a wait, and you wait outsode on the sidewalk, but it goes quick. It's on Iberville just around the corner from Bourbon.

Cafe Du Monde for breakfast. Maybe a 10 minute walk from Harrah's. Beignets and coffee. Nothing else on the menu. Sometimes a long line, but again it goes quick. Lots of tables and quick service. There's probably better beignets in NO and maybe a local can point them out. But these are good.

There is only one place for muffaletta's. Central Grocery. Seek this place out for lunch one day. Best sandwich you will ever eat.

Mulate's is a great family-style, cajun, live-music (zydeco) dance/dining hall. It's not far from your hotel and it has great food.

Mother's is awesome and that point cannot be stressed enough. It's very close to your hotel and the casino.

NOLA is an Emeril restaurant and is supposed to be good, but I've never been.

Acme is a fun experience, but food is a little ovverrated and it can get extremely crowded.

Court of Two Sisters is a fantastic higher-end restaurant with a really unique courtyard. They serve table-side caesar salads, table-side bananas foster, and the best crab au gratin you will ever put in your mouth.

I would advise that you definitely venture off Bourbon St. as that's where you'll find all the great food. Always watch your surroundings and keep your wallet in your front pocket.

e sure to come back and give us an update after your trip. NO is great and my tastebuds are jealous of yours.

Man, alot of good responses...thanks guys.

Most of them say to watch my back.
Kinda sucks since I will most likely be by myself most of the trip.

cafe fleur de lis - had breakfast with friends there when we went in Feb. MUST GO. Get either the French Toast or the seafood crepe

For a real NO experience, go to breakfast at the Camellia Grill

Petunia's in the Quarter for breakfast is simply awesome -- one of many must-do's when in NOLA. Believe it's on St. Louis St.

I am fine.
I actually had a life changing experience. Wont get into that here, just know that you should stay out of Harrahs.

I had a ball on Wednesday night, hit K Pauls for dinner.
Had a hurricane.
Tried the fried dough covered in powdered sugar.
Met a bunch of great locals.

There seemed to be a bunch of animosity toward the black community, surprisingly.

People were great.

Awesome city that I will go back to no doubt.
